“What a huge contribution he made. As big as spell check. On the other hand the auto fill guy should be shot”
Yes.

Now, how many remember why Tesler decided he could use Ctrl-X, Ctrl-C, and Ctrl-V, Ctrl-R, Ctrl-F and have those commands be so readily accepted by (now) billions of computer users?
Because he was a CTRL freak?
“Silly Rabbit” /bad commercial voice
No, no. 8<)
The ^ (upwards “V”) was every editor’s handwritten mark to “insert text here” on a piece of paper.
“X” removes the “lined out text”
So, if you are “inserting text”, you are either using “^” or “V” - and the ^ wasn’t on every keyboard yet or accepted in 80 character IBM punch cards since it was a “power of ten” command.
And, if you are inserting text, you must have either “Copied it” or “Cut it” first. to keep things more clear, C = Copy and X became “Cut it out” from “X it out”

Useful commands, particular the keyboard shortcuts.
However, I think highest praise should go to the inventor of UNDO

Since I'm a Unix guy, and 'vi' is my favorite editor, it's still yyp instead of ctrl-c,ctrl-v for me.
I'm amazed at the number of people today that don't know that you can use your keyboard to cut/copy/paste.

Back in the day, I worked with an IBM Fellow at IBM Yorktown Heights, that invented the cursor. That was a great achievement as well.I'm pretty sure people have been cursing since Biblical times.

I vaguely remember the ‘Wordstar’ keyboard shortcuts, and I used to use them hundreds of times a day!..............in the late 80’s............

"I'm amazed that I have no clue the difference between cut and copy, I guess someday I'll look it up." Cut & Paste: Removes a block of text and puts it somewhere else.
Copy & Paste: Duplicates a block of text somewhere else.

In addition, most Linux distributions actually have 2 clipboards. If you’re using your mouse you can highlight a selection with the left button, then paste with the middle. This is a separate clipboard from the cut/copy/paste one. I use this feature all the time so I don’t have to go back and forth on documents as much.

RIP
John Knoll invented Photoshop. When he goes I will be skeptical about any photos released surrounding his demise.
