Yes he survived. 35 years old. He took group transportation from Seattle airport so probably gave it to others.

I have yet to see anything that says people under the age of 75 should be concerned. Except for toilet paper.

I’m in Newport Beach (will be back today). Where about in OC, if you don’t mind?

Yes. They’re magnificent carriers/transmitters of every variety of pathogen. Especially given they often don’t exhibit any symptoms.

I’m in NH.

Rain will take out the aerosolized virus (debate is still ongoing as to the level of threat from this) along with all the other trash in the air, and wash the streets, so a good thing.

Warm weather doesn’t guarantee the end of this. We can hope, but it is doing pretty well in some warm-hot regions. Singapore (equatorial) was looking like they had it contained, but it is spreading there again. I credit their containment efforts more than the weather.

If you don’t have to go out, don’t.

I’m in Los Angeles visiting my mother, eager to get back to Orange County. Thanks for the advice. It’s been raining on and off here for more than a week. Highly unusual, most welcome.

The ten day forecast portends a lot more rain. A few weeks ago, talk was returning to drought.

“Or, hopefully, because of the hot temperatures there.”

India is at the same latitude as China.

Hope is fine, but if it doesn’t work out, best to be prepared. I wouldn’t hang my hat on the temperature thing, and even so, fall in the southern hemisphere is approaching.

It’s still spreading in some fairly warm places. Looks like it’s starting to get noticed in South America and Africa, now.

For most people, it costs very little to do some basic prep, just in case. You don’t want to be that starving guy that wanders around the quarantine zone begging for anything, even cat food, while you spread the virus.

I have friends and family in Germany. It isn’t bad there, yet, I’m told. I have acquaintances from around the world. Many have disappeared from the web. I don’t think they’re dead or even sick, just busy amidst the turmoil. Some kids from the local youth choir were touring in Italy. Came back just as things were exploding there. Guess who’s in quarantine, along with the teachers that were chaperoning them? Yeah. Two of my daughters participated in that choir, one graduated a couple years ago, the other too young for the trip. But that is just one degree of separation.

All this stuff is needed to keep Italy from happening here. I’d do more, frankly, if it were my purview, but I expect President Trump is doing as much as he can. I noticed that many of the political class did an about-face on policies, all around the same time, and almost everybody is on board. Guess they got briefed.

Much of what is being done has precedent. In the last real global pandemic, the disease didn’t get around nearly as fast, so all the countermeasures didn’t happen simultaneously like they are now. But closures, isolations, city quarantines, travel bans - none of this is new.

Simple, basic prep, for the possibility of a few weeks at home, should be enough. Utilities and services should continue to work pretty much at normal levels. More intense prep isn’t likely to be necessary, but don’t take that as any kind of discouragement. Panic of any sort is counterproductive. The more you stay away from other people, the better your chances of not even catching this disease.

The vast majority of people that would die if our HCS collapsed, like Wuhan, like Italy, will live if everybody does their part.

So far in the US we have few cases, but we clearly have community spread.

In Italy they were caught napping and now it is a disaster. I suspect their death toll will overtake China’s within a week. And that’s after they belatedly took drastic action to contain the virus.

So 1 in 15 of all Italians aren’t going to die, but in the most affected area, they have 1 in 15 infected dying because they lost control and it blew up their HCS. That 1 in 15 doesn’t include collateral damage, either.

If you did basic prep you ought to be fine. A couple of weeks binge watching your favorite show or reading or catching up on (inside) chores is hopefully the worst you’ll have to face. There will be hotspots here and there but with the country effectively on a war (and this is war, albeit against a nonhuman adversary) footing, outbreaks should be squelched without too much disruption.

Most people will be fine. The danger is primarily in the potential to overwhelm the HCS. Social distancing, being prepared, those are the most effective tactics and everybody can do them.

“You know why it just doesn’t fit your narrative”

Looks like they are starting to find a lot of cases in South America, Africa and India. Because they have started looking.

The hot weather theory was always based on wishful thinking, with some contrary evidence available all along. I still hope it is true, but I’m not betting any lives on it. The common cold, also a corona virus, doesn’t go away in warm weather; doesn’t have a season like the common flu. What happens is people naturally spread out in warmer weather instead of all being in the same box sneezing all over each other. We should see something similar with CV, but there is no guarantee it goes away “completely” like the flu.

My narrative is concisely stated in my tag line.

The major issue is so many folks get this bug and have little or no symptoms and never report

So nobody can say how many die..

With flu it’s an estimate.

Not with this so far...which has driven the death rate way up

Count me among those who think a viral respiratory contagion will fare poorly in warm weather

Remember folks, as of now, more people have dies this year form seasonal flu than form this COVID-19. “Dr. Gregory Poland, a Mayo Clinic infectious diseases and vaccine specialist, says that the threat of the coronavirus is real, but the seasonal flu still remains a bigger issue for most people. “Right now, seasonal flu is causing many more deaths than COVID-19, and the tragedy is that many people die because they consider it ‘just the flu,’” says Dr. Poland.” https://newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org/discussion/covid-19-vs-seasonal-flu-what-you-need-to-know-about-both/ Dr. Poland continues... “Right now, the number of COVID-19 cases pales in comparison to the number of flu cases,” says Dr. Poland. “Unlike COVID-19, seasonal flu is in every state and every community in the U.S.

I was just reading about a 60-year old in Bellevue (~6 miles south of the nursing home). She felt ill with “the flu” on Tuesday and left work early. Weds. she worked from home. Thursday she was found dead in her home!

I was reading about her.. She was a law clerk.. Was it the Flu?

“Was it the flu?”

I think they are investigating it. They can do the test postmortem (which they did with some of the Life Care Center people that had died prior to the news of the virus in that place). I would imagine it is the corona virus. Makes me think of those videos out of China where the guy is lying dead on the street with his bags of groceries at his side.

Well enough to go to the store and shop, but then dies on the way home!
