Rough take:
AG Bill Barr will chair a new committee which will review FCC licenses of US telecommunications companies for foreign connections such as money or ownership. The committee may recommend mediation measures or revocation of licenses to the FCC.

They have woken up to the fact that China owns or controls much of U.S. media.

scratchin my head. This looks totally advisory? It doesn’t appear FCC has to apply any of these recommendations. It also doesn’t address any review of existing licenses.
I wonder what brought this on?

Tencent owns a significant chunk of Reddit which is a very large, high traffic social media forum site, with a lot of younger folks in the user base. Since the tencent influence came about, they basically ran off a huge pro-Trump forum.
The FCC wouldnt have any pull here, I dont believe, just pointing out another way the Chinese are affecting our media.

Back in the day (before I had children) I was a telecom attorney (half my practice was regulatory, half was mergers and acquisitions of regulated companies). I am very curious what brought this on. Interesting.
