Florida’s flora and fauna is still recovering from the last glacial maximum of the current ice age. Compared to other semi-tropical and tropical areas of the world Florida is species poor. The last cold glacial maximum wiped out a lot of tropical species in Florida and now, in the warmer weather of the current interglacial, there are many empty ecological niches for new species to exploit.

Man cannot stop nature from doing what nature does no matter how many government bureaucrats are hired. Man is only accelerating a natural process and cannot stop it.

If a way to wipe out every mosquitoes in America was discovered the fools running our government would stop it because - reasons.

A small problem compared to south Florida where Southeast Asian pythons and Monitor Lizards (which grow to as much as 7’ and weigh considerably more than those skinny little guys in Georgia) have invaded the Everglades and surrounding areas. Then there’s the Iguana’s which are everywhere from the southern peninsula to Key West. It’s like Jurrasic Park down there.

Are they edible?

It depends on how hungry you are.
Not much meat on the ribs.

What ever your cooking add cayenne pepper. Lots of it. Presto! Tastes like chicken, hot freaking chicken. Prior to cooking get beer and ice. Lots of beer. Justine Wilson would know how to cook one.

The absolute creepiest wild animal I ever saw was the monitor lizard. All over the canals (or whatever they call their waterways in Bangkok) were these huge lizards crawling on the rocks, just under houses. We asked our guide if they eat people and he said they might attack a baby. I shudder when I think of them.

” The invasive species also eats fruit, vegetables, pet food, and small animals including native species like gopher tortoises.”

Describes more than lizards...

Speaking of murder hornets, how are those African bees that attack in gangs doing these days?

"and NVDs"

Lots of luck if you use thermals.

Lizards are cold blooded.

If they make a summer run to Chiraq, plenty of rats and pigeons.

No telling how the locals will react?
Might keep for pets or BBQ?
Pets or meat.

As a former Florida resident, I’m surprised we haven’t heard about tegus in that state first. Florida has the kind of climate where almost any plant or animal turned loose has a fighting chance of survival.

We keep a fence around our garden, but the critters sometimes find a way in, happens.
They were here first.

Illegal interlopers?
I have a nice pellet rifle 1100 FPS through the chrony and not much noise.

Watch the movie “Men At Work”. Pellet rifles are dangerous. :)

The great Dr. Fauci is recommending shutting down Georgia again and surrounding states to keep the lizard at bay. He promises a repellent soon. He will discuss it tomorrow morning on what ever morning show you turn on.
