Not a rebellion at all. Just not making it EASY for the government, HACKERS, ... don't forget the hackers. Apparently you have.

Please continue.

Hey, there may come a time when we are all shivering in the mountains. Funny how all of the things that we take for granted can disappear in a very short period of time. Society collapses. Will it happen? I don't know. I hope not. But people like you and the general masses will panic when their cellphone stops working and food from the supermarket is rationed or nonexistent.

This last bout with the covid mess, was just a sample and a wake up, a slap in the face of what may happen. And no, toilet paper is not the only necessity. We have learned a lot from the covid mess... that our government can and will do anything necessary and worst of all, people like you will accept it as the norm and as their right.

You don’t how OCR works and how reliable it is do you. :)

If you don’t understand, then I am not going to spell it out for you.

But you aren’t doing that. That’s my point. You haven’t reduced the amount of your data in those computers by one single byte. All you did was make them take 20 minutes to put it in by hand than 20 seconds from OCR or 20 milisecond by electronic submission. The data is STILL IN THERE. Available to the government and hackers.

You seem to have wrapped up a lot of your sense of self worth in this idea you’re some great thorn in somebody’s side. But you’re not.

BWAHAHAHAHA. Now you’re equating making the IRS type your return into the computer with a magical ability to survive societal collapse?! DUDE. Get real.

BWHAHAHAHAHA again. Really. The government did NOTHING during covid they haven’t done before. 1918 flu. Various riots. Weather disasters. None of this crap was new. And who said anything about accepting it normal or right? That’s you making crap up again.

You really are frankly delusional. Addicted to a sense of specialness you do not earn. Rebelling against nothingness with nothingness. You are dumb. We are done. Have the last word. I’m sure it will be filled with self congratulation. And also stupid. Buh bye. Have fun storming the castle.

Actually I work with OCR software almost every day. I’ve got a better how reliable it is than you ever will.

You missing the point. What we have here is a failure to communicate.

Back to the taxes discussion.

If I submit a paper form then a human being will most likely have to review it. Or possibly it will be run through a scanner with OCR capability. Since we both agree, an OCR is not perfect, there is a good chance that it will introduce an error. For example: zero 0 versus O. So, do you run it through the scanner again? Run again, run again, run again. Or do you have a human being look at the discrepancy and manually change the O to a 0.

The point is that the OCR process takes a heck of a lot more resources and time to process a return than electronically.

BTW, I work with software that converts pdfs or graphics a lot too. And it is painful. Almost better to have a person, a human being, transcribe the document manually versus correcting 10, 20, 50 errors.

BTW, a refund from a return filed via snail mail, will take a lot longer to process than one than is done electronically. This is not a coincidence.

Enough said! Sheesh.

No. And errors go against you anyway. You do realize that the IRS has the ability to do your returns for you? Really, you don’t need to fill anything out, you can sign the form, put in all your stuff and they do it for you. Technically they don’t even need your stuff since everybody that gives you stuff gives a copy to them. The return ONLY actually exists for errors. Either you make an error in their favor, so you give them too much money. Or you make an error in your favor, which they wait 4 years to “find” and charge you 10% plus 10 cents a day.

And as for 0 or O that’s so solved. Especially on a form. IRS OCR knows there won’t be any Os after your address. Easy stuff.

It’s not a coincidence. Paper returns are on the bottom of the priority, in case they have to cut a check. Time value of money and all. Longer it spends in their account the lower its value when it gets to you. The IRS always wins.

I don’t think it’s as simple as not downloading the app. Google and Apple will be building contact tracing tools embedded in OS updates pushed to your Android or iPhone. It will require some diligence to go in the settings menu, tracke them all down, and ensure they are turned to off. And even that may not work - if the switch for “off” is used to actually activate the feature. And yes, that happens a lot in OS upgrades

Not reading errors. I would hope that if there is an error because the ocr program cannot decode a character that is not blamed on the taxpayer. That is stupid.

Also, the IRS doesn't have ALL of your information. There is a level of honesty that exists. For the big stuff that has to be reported, yes. And even some of the moderate value stuff may not be reported. The IRS is still relying on you to be honest... and the fear of fines and penalties.

Also, if the IRS is so good at catching errors, you would think that a person who has not filed in several years would immediately raise a red flag. Actors, athletes, singers may not pay taxes for a decade or more. First two checks should be, did a person file a return; second, did they file on time. Easy, peasey for a “computer” to do it. Yet, they miss it.

No, you put too much confidence it technology; software and hardware. BTW, I deal with it all of the time daily, both in my personal life and at work. It is impressive what it can do but it is not perfect. Especially, when the power is turned off.

Paper returns are on the bottom of the priority. Of course, because they have to be processed manually. MY POINT ALL ALONG!

On Apple. I believe if you haven’t installed an app, the content tracing is always disabled.

I use an old flip-top. It doesn’t function well with new tech updates. I take a lot of heat because of it. I don’t care.

No. They built APIs into their OSes. But without an app to do something with them APIs are just there. They do nothing. No it will require no diligence. If you don’t want a contact trace app, don’t get one.

Without an app it doesn’t exist. Just like if you don’t have a compass app you can’t use your phone as a compass. The tools are there, the OS supports direction finding, but the tools are not doing anything without you getting an app.

I don’t think that’s accurate, I just spent half a day resetting my phone after the last update. All sorts of squirrelly items were turned on by Android. Even my network settings were overridden, forcing me to do a soft reset. Contact tracing will not require APIa on the user end - APIs allow you to write data from one app to another These apps will be activated by default as part of OS upgrades, similar to location tracking defaults. I wish this wasn’t true, but it unfortunately is.

No it absolutely requires APIs because they hadn’t bothered to do anything to detect distance with bluetooth. It’s a new way to use it, which means new API calls. Yes they often reset settings in an upgrade. Annoying how they think they know better. The APIs are most definitely active in that they are available for an application to use. But that doesn’t mean there’s an application there that actually does. Again compass apps. There’s an API on your phone that will allow you to use the phone as a compass. It’s already there. But it doesn’t do it until you get an app.
