Merry Clayton's solo/duet with Mick Jagger on “Gimme Shelter” is one of the greatest back-up performances of all time.

Keef' s autobiography is splendid.
He states he came up with the music, plus the first and last lines of the song. MJ filled in the rest.

When pushed, “Gimme Shelter” is my #1 Rock and or Roll song ever recorded.
The background story of Merry Clayton’s amazing vocals is tragic.

At the end of her solo, Mick was mesmerized and blown away and, if listening closely, you can hear him say “Whoa”.

Keef' s autobiography is splendid. Agreed. He's pretty sharp, despite all the chemicals.

Best Stones song, IMHO. Merrys voice gives me goosebumps every time I hear it.

Did you ever read the background on that? Apparently they called her in the middle of the night when they decided they needed someone. If I remember right she was huge and pregnant and they told her more or less....just go with it. The ‘rape/murder’ was straight from her.

Do we allow music by racists [authors of Brown Sugar] on Free Republic? thinking face Or "Some Girls"?
Garrett Morris: [dignified, dripping with snooty condescension] Now, I'd like to speak about the subject of a certain Mick Jagger - of the Rolling Stones. ... And I'm going to talk about the song he sang -- a song in which he sings these very words: "Black girls - just want to have sex - all night long." ...
Now, Mr. Jagger, there is only one question I want to ask you -- Jaggs. ... And you better have the answer, man, you better have the answer, since you have besmirched the character of black women. Therefore, here is my question, Jaggs. [pause, takes off eyeglasses, suddenly drops the pose, pleading] Where are all of these black broads, man? ... [huge cheers and applause] Hey, like, where ARE they, baby? You got any phone numbers for me, baby? ... Please send 'em to me. [puts glasses back on, dignified again] Thank you. ...

IMHO, Lisa Fisher's solo in the 1995 Amsterdam version of Gimme Shelter was the absolute best.
