They may be looking for license plates, might consider driving a rental with a plate from that state?

They’re not doing $hit except at airports and then just lie. Tell them you are passing through if anyome asks. I’m in NJ and there are cars everywhere here from “quarrantined” states and haven’t seen anyome stopped anywhere. You will be fine. Cops are actually doing fewer road stopsmbecause of COVID.

Someone at Etsy or RedBubble should offer those for sale.

My state was just added to the list this week. I have a trip to New York State planned for this weekend that's been in the works for months. By next week, my state will probably come back off this list. The way Cuomo is jerking people around is shameless.

Here's the scoop, as best I can figure it out. The police will not pull you over just because you have an out-of-state plate on your car. You need to commit a traffic violation. If your destination is in the state, you might have trouble registering at a hotel if you're from a state on the list. You should check with your hotel in advance. If you're just passing through New York to another state, they won't interfere with you.

The travel ban order says that if you're entering New York from a state that's on the bad list, you need to fill out an on-line form first. The form requires you to give the state a contact number where they can call or text you to check up on you! When you get to your in-state destination, you're supposed to quarantine. If you will be in the state for more than two weeks, you will have to quarantine for the first 14 days. If you're going to be in New York for less than two weeks, you will need to quarantine the whole time you're in the state.

The most effective enforcement is at the airports, where they'll require you to fill out the travel ban form. They have no way to make you fill out the form if you're driving. However, if you're questioned, you might be asked to show a screen shot of your form.

My plan is to go to my event in New York. Your circumstances may differ, but I'll be driving from Virginia to a destination in the Syracuse area. I'll gas up one last time in Pennsylvania, then keep going until I'm at the hotel. The room is registered in the name of a New York resident who will be staying with me, so it isn't a phony registration. I'll park my car, with its Virginia plate, and stay away from it until I'm ready to drive home. A friend with New York plates will drive me around while I'm there. I'll probably fill out the on-line form before I leave Virginia. I'll practice social distancing, wear a mask and do all the other responsible things while I'm in New York.

So, I won't be in strict compliance with Emperor Cuomo's order. I'll need to stay away from my car because of snitches, although the upstaters are fed up with Cuomo and snitches might be thin on the ground.

I just can't accept that Cuomo, using some arbitrary algorithm, can decide from day to day who can and cannot enter his state. Virginia is in good shape with the pandemic: it isn't like Florida or Texas. It just went on the list this week and when new numbers are reported, it probably will come off the list. In the meantime, I'll evade this stupid edict. Good luck!

All of my family’s summer plans in NY were changed this summer, including a family reunion, camping in the Adirondacks and two weeks in Manhattan. Cuomo can pound salt.

Cuomo, however, can visit Georgia, one of his quarantine states, and return to NY without sequestering himself because he’s “essential.”

It could happen in Cuomoland.

As an aside, when I was a kid in the 60s our family went to one of those family camps at Saranac Lake a couple years in a row. Really great memories. They’d hire teens to take the kids a aside for activities and nature walks during the day and then after dinner we were allowed to join the adults for whatever entertainment was planned that evening. It was probably only a week during three different summers but those are lasting memories during simpler times that I’ll never forget.

Just stay on the interstates the entire way .
If pulled over telling you are going to Thousand Islands ,Canada .
I have heard of no one being pulled over period.
But have your toll card full and don't stop at a booth .
I find driving in the middle of the night arrive very early morning best way to avoid issues .

My guess is that if you are driving, you have more chance of hitting a deer than being busting for not quarantining.

That’s a good plan.

But it’s a damn shame that American citizens can no longer travel freely among the states.

In all seriousness. My understanding is that you are not prohibited from going to the state, but you have to let them know where you will be staying and promising a ‘self-quarantine’... which seems Saranac Lake is ideally suited for....

Try renting a vehicle with NY plates.

Good thoughts. I might fill out the form, give them a NY number and view that as good faith compliance. We are staying at a cabin on a lake, with very few others around.

If you’re challenged, don’t say you’re just passing through on your way to Canada. The Canadians aren’t letting anybody in. Say you’re going to swing east and visit Vermont.

Early in July my wife had tickets to fly from Texas to NY. But late June Cuomo issued his edict about folks from Texas must be quarantined for 2 weeks if visting NY.

She made a change of plans.....she flew into Philly and rented a car...thankfully the rental car had Pennsylvania plates so she just had to follow traffic laws to avoid any stop by state police since she obviously has a Texas D.L.

So maybe renting a vehicle is worthy of consideration.

Be quiet about it, difficult to enforce it, but if you don’t feel good stay home or better yet get tested.
