A surprise .... got to digging through the box where I had all the wedding sampler ‘stuff’. I thought I vaguely recalled buying all the DMC and I had. The pattern also calls for gold glass beads & two little heart buttons. I was thinking what I could do in place of those items; however, I evidently had bought them when I ordered the pattern book & fabric!
The only thing I’m missing is some Glissen Gloss Rainbow Blending Thread, color ‘brass’. It’s only used in combination with a strand of DMC on the 2 wedding bell clappers ... I think not using it would still work out (DMC color is ‘old gold’). This thread is available on the site where I bought the pattern, beads & hearts ... I’d like to find it somewhere local, but don’t see it with a cursory search. It’s $1.95 and I don’t want to pay shipping on such a small amount.
I’m sliding faster & faster down the mental slippery slope to starting this project. Finding the beads/hearts helped.
I have given up on using grommets, I set a couple of dozen and only a few that I liked.
Moving on, I went with a 3/8” nylon webbing loop, attached on one side leaving a small loop for the drawcord, it works well.
The body, hood, and sleeves are all together, now the hard work begins.
Because it is a simple copy of a rain parka, I have run out of the basic parts and need to add the trim and pockets. For this, I kind of make it up as I go and I go slowly.
To cover, strengthen and seal the drawcord attachment points I decided on a rectangular front piece (lapels?).
So I made one up and pinned it on, good when open but puckered when closed tight, no surprise...
Still thinking to put in a gusset behind the lapels.
Then a google trip looking at what others have made looking for ideas. Many beautiful wool anoraks to look at, all different.
Next, it was two separate sides for a front piece... then different lengths... shapes. Finally, something I like, and my wife also thinks it is OK.
My sewing partner says you have to have a pattern and stick to it... not for me.
Not complaining. I’m having fun!
And very happy with most of the results, so far... only had to use the seam ripper a few times.
Yes, I’ll get some photos up.
LOL! Stealing for the September Thread...which I’m getting to right now!!
I’m so out of it today, I didn’t even realize it’s time for a new thread!
