Actually under Obama in 2010, the government took over the actual direct lending of student loans - before 2010, the US Government guaranteed the loans made by private banks.
Even Trump is slowly climbing onboard with the idea of loan forgiveness.
Mark it down as one bad idea that is GOING to happen.
The political momentum is just going to be unstoppable.
Stopping the same thing from happening again is key.
Any student who wisely chooses a STEM field is an idiot, as they cannot compete with the Cheap Indian Labor Express, to include OPT, H1B and H4EAD. 40% to 60% of graduates are unemployable in their own graduate field because of this.
Was looking for a position at CSU in Ft. Collins, CO. Hundreds of H1Bs and OPTs employed there. Same as most other colleges and universities. No jobs for Americans, tens of thousands for foreign trash.
You are right all around. I work in higher ed now and about 10% of the work and learning is expected of them for a basic BA/BS compared to when we old farts largely put ourselves through college—if we valued it enough.
“Actually under Obama in 2010, the government took over the actual direct lending of student loans”
They took over the program but they then privatized loans.
Pardon me for saying so but kick her ass out. She seems to have time to wreck havoc in the streets but not to work a full time job. Tell her it’s time to spread her wings and fly.
Schools probably shouldn’t be in the student loan biz, but just let the private sector work it out. Associate degrees are dirt cheap and can be completed while working. Then further motivated students can pick up from there as 3rd year students for their regular state colleges, or wherever, if they are so motivated.
The other side of this is I went to UC Berkeley in the 1980s for $1200 a semester and got a degree in chemical engineering
Furthermore I got paid to go to graduate school to get a degree in mechanical engineering
See the pattern here kids?
Absolutely worthless today due the Indian Cheap Labor Express (and preference for other foreign trash - like Communist Chinese - instead of Americans). Why should an student bust their ass for 4 to 6 years in a real degree, when a foreigner has almost guaranteed OPT after graduation, while an American student can look forward to Starbucks and Walmart employment?
Also, any decent and motivated student these days can graduate high school with a year of AP college credit under their belt virtually free.
It would be wonderful to see the bloated universities leashed, their cadre of aging tenured Communists and younger acolytes in the Academic Priesthood, unfunded and put out on the streets. Put RICO to use on them.
Kick her ass out of where? she doesn’t live with me. maybe deadbeat was too strong of a word. she free lances enough to keep a roof over her head but nothing more.
I do not know if they have done away with them, but at one time, there were offered, a series of college level equivalency tests, that once scored, were accepted at various colleges. I cleared 2 years worth of college, in this manner.
I agree that the “college education industry” is both bloatware and has nearly priced itself out of existence.
I be live that a 2-year college can offer more towards any industrial field, more so than an old stodgy “college of name”.
The only degrees that should have any type of loan assistance are the STEM fields, and even that is kind of iffy, but at least there is a tangible return on investment.
Everything else, you pay the freight.
It’s a better idea than just forgiving the debt or having the government pay it off.
However, I’m just unsympathetic to their plight. Don’t take a loan if you can’t afford pay it back. If you can’t figure that out you should not have graduated high school, much less be going to college.
Sorry, then I missed read your post.
They were privatized prior to 2010 with Government guarantees, since then the government is the direct lender and private companies service the loans.
That’s not what I said. These loans I am speaking of have been taken off the federal student loan register such that during this Drama Bug they are not in defered.
