No room to grow herbs or salad greens? Try this! Would also be great if you have a sunny spot to hang it near your kitchen door. Remember to turn it every few days so you can use the entire growing area.

Creation of chef Zabala at the elegant Somni restaurant in the Beverly Hills hotel, says it’s important to get the best.
Zabala buys pan de cristal bread from a purveyor in Spain; outside gets really crunchy, inside stays a little soft.
Ciabatta produces similar results. Zabala prefers heirloom Cherokee Purples, but any ripe, flavorful tomato will work.
Use highest-quality evo. Chef Zabala likes Marques de Valdueza, or use good Spanish Arbequina oil with fruity notes.

Pan Con Tomate / Serves 1 to 2
ING 1 pan de cristal or ciabatta 1 ripe tomato, preferably Cherokee Purple Extra-virgin olive oil Coarse sea salt

METHOD broil uncut bread 1-2 min on sheetpan, turning once, just until crunchy on the outside. Transfer to a cutting board. When cool enough to handle, slice the bread in half as for a sandwich. Return to the pan, cut sides up and toast until golden and crisp, 1-2 min.

Cut the tomato in half through its equator (not from top to bottom). Gently rub the cut side of the tomatoes against the cut sides of the toasted bread to evenly coat the surface with a thin layer of tomato juice and pulp.

Generously drizzle olive oil all over the tomato-coated side of the bread and tilt to let the oil run into the craters of the toast. Sprinkle with salt, slice into smaller pieces and serve immediately.

You had me at, “generously drizzle olive oil all over...” :)

Getting ready to set up my dehydrator and dry the remaining Paste tomatoes I have in the garden.

Tomato Candy! :)

I love that Somni recipe——

When I read a poster was harvesting Cherokees,
I knew the recipe was tailor-made for Diana’s followers.

Probably the best tasting tomato out there, for sure!

A chef’s palate is trustworthy.

>>A chef’s palate is trustworthy.<<

Of course.

But I never understood why so many of them smoke — that would ruin your palate. I was a smoker for 30 years and quit 10+ years ago so I know.

I love the Chef shows and contests - Chopped, MasterChef, Hell’s Kitchen, Beat Bobby Flay, CUTTHROAT KITCHEN!, etc. Except the kid’s versions. I despise those precocious brats.

Amen....I detest those cooking kids.

They are given scripts to memorize.....

How else would they be able to talk food like a professional chef w/ years in cooking school and in restaurants.

Toe surgery went well yesterday. My super smart and very lovely orthopedic surgeon latet told me...no bone chips.....entire big joint on big toe had spurs.

She said it was technically 1 spur but the entire joint was “affected.”

Was able to do a quick lap in my backyard garden yesterday evening iny walking boot, thank you oxy pill.

That allowed me to gather my veggies for dinner.

I had to sleep on my couch wearing the boot and foot elevated. Didn’t get much sleep.

Wife and daughter being good to me....very patient.

I am able to take off the walking boot today and relax the leg a bit in an elevated position in my recliner.

I had deep watered the garden the night before surgery and I usually only do that 1 or 2 times a week on established plants this time of year.

But the Lord must not want me getting antsy and trying to water the garden in the next few days because we had a nice, long, downpour today for about an hour....not too long and not too hard.....just right.

Since I am down and out of commission right now I decided to text msgs to many people who are important to me and twll them to go jump in a ....no...I texted them all nice messages of support and gratefulness.

Once in a while ya gotta remind those people that they are valued and appreciated.

Work update. Passed all the required written and interview tests for Seargent.

O am #30 on the liat out of 54. So not too bad and in normal times I would be assured of being promoted off of this list (lasts 2 years)

It is to bee seen how all this defunsing talk will do to my chances.

Could mean less SGT positions existing but it is also driving cops to quit, retire, or go to other agencies.

One guy I work with who was in top ten on this list just quit so he is no longer in front of me.

And in reality they could drive me out with a couple more bad days in a row.

Glad you’re on the mend. I’m sure you’re happy to have this taken care of; I’m sure it hurt!

“And in reality they could drive me out with a couple more bad days in a row.”

Your situation is critical, but I’m thinking a LOT of people are re-thinking their jobs, livelihoods, careers and their lives in GENERAL after the BS we’ve put with for the past 6 months.

I predict we are going to see many people becoming more self-sufficient, growing gardens, learning how to DO things, etc. And sending their children in that direction, too. Tech School over an over-priced and most-likely USELESS College degree.

JMHO. I wish you well!
