Still and all, it’s kind of hard to have much sympathy for those who’ve never known true hardship and never will. Especially since so many have never known anything BUT hardship, and never will.
My rich buddy says he is just broke at a much higher level. ..that the feelings and pressures are basically the same.
I think it’s because they see money as a license to spend up to some higher limit, when if people lived a little more modestly, they would never want for anything.
There’s a whole lot of people who will resent you for having money
Ever since I had a paper route at age 13, I endeavored to put something aside every payday into savings. That practice has served me well over these past 40+ years.
What kind of an IDIOT would wake up one morning and think to themselves, it’s a good day to write about how miserable I am being Wealthy, especially in this day and age?
Sounds something like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BXWvKDSwvls
I met someone A few years ago whose family ran a ski resort in Germany. It was rated four stars. I asked if they wanted to upgrade to five stars but she said no they did not. The people who go to a five star establishment are not the same people. They are picky and mean. This girls family loved their guests, who were family people with reasonable expectations of having a fun vacation and letting go of their cares for a while. Five star people would not be like that.
I guess five star people have to keep worrying about whether they are getting treated right and getting their moneys worth, not being taken advantage of. The rest of us can relax a bit perhaps.
That might be a legit call. Call em back. If they ask for your bank info or personal info like social security number, hang up on them.
And then, if it works out, send me $100k for urging you to call them back. :)
Id be perfectly happy inside my heavily-defended fortress of solitude. (OK, you guys would all be invited over, but thats it).
All the best things in life are free
Cry me a river...
In a few more years when hyperinflation kicks in we will all be millionaires.
I’ve been poor. It’s a lot harder being poor than rich.
Sudden wealth is not always a blessing.
There are too many stories of lottery winners (or professional athletics) that come into large amount of money without knowing how to handle it. Bottom line is they end up worse off then they were before they got the money.
Well, the article did say they were now philanthropists.
It's not hard being rich. If because you are rich you make wrong choices, that might be hard.
I just read that Eve Plumb, now 62 years old, who played Jan Brady in the Brady Bunch, had a small beachfront house she bought on the Malibu seacoast in 1969 for 50,000 dollars when she was 11 years old, and sold it in 2019 for 3.4 million dollars. That’s how you become the millionaire next door.
My Father, a man of modest means told me this advise. “Getting rich is hard, keeping it is even harder.”
i’m willing to try to take on her problems.
(yes i read her whole article)
“My rich buddy says he is just broke at a much higher level. ..that the feelings and pressures are basically the same.”
My wife and I have done very well but spent boatloads of money on our hobbies and house. Built a 6 bedroom, 6 bath McMansion that we now regret 10k per year in property taxes
We have zero debt but our hobbies ensure we will continue to have to work. WE don’t have alot saved up. We are land poor. I do own apartments and office building free and clear and that will be my retirement. Our house is paid off.
I estimated my wife has spent $600k on her horses since we married 22 years ago. Rent at $450 per month per horse for 5-6 years before we bought land, new state of hobby horse barn, land, fencing, riding arena, more horses, feed, truck, tractor etc.
We are in our late 50’s and will be working for a long time.
