I remember his summer replacement variety show.
He had a segment where he would ask the studio audience to toss out a topic and he’d write a song about it on the spot.

The audience came up with weird stuff like “Zippers on Bananas” and “I Got My Toe Stuck in a Faucet”. And yet Mac never failed to come up with a song. It was amazing.

Didn’t know about Helen Reddy. I was never a fan.
She was sort of the face of obnoxious feminism back in the day. Though she did manage to chart an impressive number of songs in the 70’s.

Back then the Ovation acoustic was pretty cool. I remember seeing him use it on TV shows. RIP, guy.

Wow. The first commercial recording of “I Believe in Music” was by Helen Reddy, who also died yesterday. Two big musical stars from the 70s on the same day.

Helen Reddy. The “I Am Woman; hear me whine, moan, complain and nag” woman?

Just heard “A Little Less Conversation” the other day. I always thought that song was so cute and clever, and when I heard it again this week I wondered who wrote it. Now I know. RIP, Mac.

My wife - then girlfriend - and I attended a Helen Reddy concert, with Mac Davis the opening act. He swept the audience completely away, and she was mediocre by comparison, with noticeably less audience enthusiasm. His opening was to tell everyone in the audience to turn around and shake hands with the one in the seat behind them.

I saw him in 1971, he was the opening act for The Carpenters. Terrific performer. RIP Mac Davis.

Well, I could just sit around
Makin’ music all day long
Long as I’m makin’ music
I know I couldn’t do nobody wrong

And who knows, maybe someday
I’ll come up with a song
It makes people want to stop
All their fussin’ and fightin’
Just long enough to sing along

I believe in music, I believe in love

Music is love and love is music
If you know what I mean
And people who believe in music
Are the happiest people I’ve ever seen

So clap your hands and stomp your feet
And shake your tambourine
Lift your voices to the sky
God loves you when you sing

Everybody sing
I, I believe in music, I believe in love
Sing it through me children
I, I believe in music, God knows that I believe in love

Another hit to about the same tune “Why don’t we all just get stoned” aka The Beer Drinking Song.

Maybe I missed it, but I don’t think anyone has mentioned Roy Head here.

This is bizarre.

I just thought about him yesterday for the first time in a long time and thought it would be interesting to visit with him.

I have none of his records. It was just a random thought as I very briefly remembered his TV show in the 70s.

I stopped watching and gave up on NFL when Irsay moved the Colts (Bolts?) to Indianapolis.

Hate O’s owner Angelos. However can’t compete with New York and Boston money.

Liked Boston fans because they welcomed me to sit in their sections with my Palmer jersey, and I never had to buy a beer. I also got seats one year in the upperdeck with Wild Bill. I rented rooms in my house in Lynchburg VA so I could trek up to Baltimore for weekend series back in the 70’s. I have a glove Brooks Robinson autographed the day he retired.

was a stallion fan and was ashamed to let them go... on the eastern shore of maryland now... remember palmer and brooks and boog fondly... was at the game where belanger had one of his three home runs... the crowd cheered him out, like four times.

Four of the members of the Grateful Dead are still alive, and still playing. Some people can live hard and somehow still survive.
