You're misrepresenting what he said. He said there is a risk that the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines will be less effective against the South African strain. At no point has anyone said they do not work against the new strain. That hasn't even been tested at this point.

This new “shot” is not a vaccine in the traditional sense. Even Fauci himself has said that it does not necessarily prevent a person from contracting the cv19 virus or transmitting it, but prevents one from developing severe complications from the disease.
Either way if you ask any doctor about what I stated above, they will qualify their answer with... “We don’t really know for sure.”
