I would think that by now, Icelandic aviation should have contingency measures well planned. They've gone through a number of these eruptions and disruptions to air travel.

Looked, but didn't see any notams, tfrs, etc. Example from 2010:

I was going to suggest that the volcano might be appeased if we hurled Gates into it. Worth a shot.

This one is a lava volcano. Gasses, Lava, etc.

But, that said. Laki was about a vei 4, went on for months and killed most likely MORE than the Tambora event.

That whole island is one huge volcanic field.

Of course it helps when two plates split the island.

I wonder if this entire area was originally an impact crater which created Iceland, over time, due to outpouring of lava over the ages?

Please wear a mask to prevent ingestion of ejecta and keep 6 ft from others so no two people are clobbered by the same piece of flying basalt.

I’d really like for Greta to live a nice long life and see none of her dopey concerns come to pass.

Or it could not. Science doesn't equivocate.

I dunno:

Research reveals that during the latter part of Holocene – a term used to describe a period that began about 11,700 years ago – the volcanic systems on the Reykjanes peninsula have erupted every 900 to 1100 years. Less is known about the first part of Holocene.

Each eruption period appears to have lasted about 500 years, and during that time most of the volcanic systems appear to have been active, albeit generally not simultaneously.

They weren’t sellin’, apparently.
