Fauci: ‘Breakthrough’ COVID cases post-vaccination are ‘not surprising’

New York Times:

“In the next few months, Pfizer and Moderna are expected to release data that should indicate how often vaccinated people become infected by the virus, even if they have no symptoms. The companies have been testing participants in their vaccine trials for antibodies to a protein called N that is part of the coronavirus but not part of the vaccine. Finding those antibodies means that a vaccinated person has been infected by the virus. Some volunteers from the studies are also having their noses swabbed regularly to test for an active viral infection.”

“Another question is how effective the vaccines are in people whose immune systems have been weakened by illness or medications, said Dr. William Schaffner, an infectious disease expert at Vanderbilt University. Breakthrough cases might occur in those people because their bodies cannot produce a robust reaction to a vaccine.”

“And it is amazing how pervasive immunocompromise is,” Dr. Schaffner said.”

My doctor says it is unclear whether the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines will protect you from the Brazil and South African variants. And he definitely doesn’t think they’ll protect you from the new New York variant. If anyone tells you they are absolutely sure they will, they are not telling you the truth.....

I’m looking at the scientific literature where actual testing has been done to find out the real answer. The literature to date says that all testing indicates that all variants are covered by the vaccines.

Further, if the vaccine doesn’t cover you, a previous COVID-19 infection will not either since they’re producing the same antibodies.

The South African variant (B.1.351)

The South African variant is perhaps the most concerning one vaccine-wise. It shares some similar mutations with the Brazilian mutation, which affect the virus’ spike protein. However, this variant triggered a much larger reduction in virus neutralization.

The variant has already spread internationally, with over 100 cases being detected in the UK, Israel, Austria, and the Netherlands — though the real incidence is probably much higher. The variant is not believed to be more dangerous, but it is more contagious than the original virus, possibly comparable to the UK variant.

Do vaccines work on the South African variant?

The AstraZeneca vaccine: The vaccine shows a 9-fold reduction in efficiency compared to the original virus.
South Africa stopped vaccinations with the AstraZeneca vaccine after the vaccine was found to be ineffective. Overall vaccine efficacy against mild-to-moderate COVID-19 for the variant was found to be 10.4%. However, the jury is still out on whether the vaccine can protect against severe cases and make them milder.

Actually, you may want to forego the anti inflammatory meds if you can.

The reverse would be concerning if true as well.

“The Illinois Department of Public Health told NBC 5 it is tracking cases of individuals who have been vaccinated and test positive for COVID-19. According to IDPH, of the more than 1.6 million people who are fully vaccinated, 217 reported a positive test more than two weeks after their last vaccine dose.”

“Having been fully vaccinated for six weeks and then to get a positive COVID test, I was shocked,” Silver said.”

“It hit me hard,” she said. “I’ve read that if someone vaccinated gets COVID, it’s usual very mild symptoms. But for two days my symptoms were not mild at all. I was in bed, very ill.”

I will personally bet they're milder infections, that is, a vaccinated person will have a partial immunity to them already.

Coronavirus PING!

Yeah. I had the chickenpox when I was a kid. My sister caught it first, she was really wrecked. Then of course I got it. I had 3 pocks on my entire body. My mother made my stay at my grandma’s house. I was fine, but bored. Grandma sent me home 2 days later and said “this kid doesn’t need any attention he’s fine”.

But I’m probably overdue for a shingles shot now. Also, way overdo for a colonoscopy. I’m in no rush for either.

42are asymptomatic. That means the viral load is too low to be contagious

No hospitalizations. Isn’t that what flattening the curve was all about

Out of how many that were vaccinated??

Why were they tested if they were not showing any signs of being ill???

I don’t trust the tests

No one (in their right mind) does.

Nor the “vaccines”.

All brought to you be the same people!!

If you can develop the Chicom Cold after your COVID-19 inoculation, what good is it?

If your friends are impressed by virtue signaling, you can impress them on Facebag. In the future, you can be proud of your participation in the human trials.

The AstraZeneca vaccine isn’t available in the US and quite possibly never will be.

All the vaccines available in the United States have been tested against the South Africa and Brazil variants. All are still effective. And Moderna is already shipping a variant-specific booster to amplify effectiveness for that particular variant.
