”That’s interesting, since Cruz is most certainly a Spanish surname.”

According to the Wikipedia entry on her, her father was White Mountain Apache and Yaqui (as was my paternal grandfather).

Many Native Americans in the Southwest have Spanish surnames which they acquired when their forefathers were baptized into the Catholic Faith under Spanish and Mexican rule. Sometimes they took Spanish names informally, such as in the case of Geronimo (which was actually “Jeronimo”, the Spanish equivalent of “Jerome”).

So she is not a pure Native American. Probably most Native Americans are mixed raced.

”So she is not a pure Native American.”

That is most certainly the case since her mother was white.

”Probably most Native Americans are mixed raced.”

I don’t know the percentages, but undoubtedly a great many are.

I do not believe Indians were portrayed as savages in the movies in 1972.

In fact, Chief Dan George had about cornered the market on the “wise, nature loving, good red man” franchise by that time.

Thanks for posting this.

Apparently, some of my ancestors were either Indian slaves or Free so called civilized Native Americans or Free “blacks” during that time.

Many of the Native Americans women married, my white English/NW Europe Ancestors, and dropped their Indian names on both sides of my family.

This was discussed by my Dad’s ancestors, grandparents and great uncles/aunts.

It was never discussed or admitted by my Mother’s ancestors.
If there were Indians, it was never discussed.

However, standard Genealogy documents such as birth certificates, marriage licenses, ownership of property, being in the military and death certificates showed well over 100 documented Native Americans.

Yet, there is no Native American DNA evidence.

However, our grand kids, grand nieces/nephews show 1-2% African DNA. We are able to trace some of that probable African DNA to some Free Blacks in S. Carolina and Virginia in the 1700’s.

Again zero Native America DNA in our systems, yet!

I agree. I’m currently watching reruns of the TV series “High Chaparral” which ran from about 1968 to 1971. All of the main groups featured (Whites, Mexican, and Indians) are portrayed evenhandedly. Some individual characters were good and some were bad, but no group was represented as uniformly bad or as savages.

Didn’t affect George C. Scott rejecting an oscar because of the character he played. Or did it?

Yes; they “LOVE” them as a concept,as an idea, but they hate their behaviors - just as much as any White supremacists do. The difference is: White Supremacists are HONEST in their racism, and that makes them MORALLY SUPERIOR to ALL leftists and their FAKE “love” and projection.

I might watch The Oscar tonight (from 1966).

It’s on a streaming service I have.

And for those who can’t access it, watch SCTV’s The Nobel.

It’s pretty much the same thing
