In 2011 unaffiliated (non-religious) Americans pretty much remained unchangeg in their thinking that a politician could be privately immoral but still fulfill their public duties - around 60% thinking this way.
Catholics went from 45% to 55%. and mainline protestants went from 40% to 60%. However, 30% of white, evangelical protestants said that a politician could be privately immoral but still fulfill their public duties - going from the least - to the most. In other words - white, evangelical protestants USED TO hold politicians MOST morally accountable and now hold them LEAST accountable. They threw their morals overboard in 5 years.
So - what changed since 2011? Did we compromise our values or did we just realize that the Democrats were right in the 1990's - that it doesn't matter what someone does in their private life? Why the drastic change? I think we all know.
This is a man in the mirror moment. What are we willing to give up? Sell out for? Compromise? What are we willing to be a hypocrite for in order to win? It is amazing to me that those most willing to claim faith in 2011 are now willing to toss it for mammon.
Period. End of story. Should not even be a discussion about this.
