That is a issue that has been being ‘watched’ by the city engineers. They need firing to let get to this state.
I remember when the bridge collapsed in another local took a Human tole 8 people died that time. 30 yrs ago.
Looks like a previous repair to the left of the crack.
they prolly used Reardon Steel.
Call in US Army, Corps of Engineers they will have that thing fixed and traffic flowing in short order. But that is not what they want. This misery is intentional.
Hold on for the ride buttercups it’s going to get interesting!
First we had a pipeline hacked, then this?
What’s next.
Sure glad we are in the capable hands of ????
“This post should be marked as vanity, the text offered to start match the text at the link. Further, the link to the article says the fridge will be closed for weeks, yet you are suggesting years.”
Posting imperfection, get the firing squad ready for the offender.
Overall though it is a testament to the (over) design & construction of the bridge that it could continue to take the load even with this failure. But it is probably operating at just about zero margin of safety now.
You do realize the San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge had a section of its upper deck collapse during the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake, falling to the lower deck and causing it to fail too, right?
Luckily we’ve got a 1 trillion dollar infrastructure bill coming.
The “crack” across the top of the beam seems awfully straight...
They could restrict use while building the new bridge. Two lanes rather than four, stuff like that.
Earthquakes are dangerous, even with brand new construction.
I had not heard about the Pensacola bridge. That’s got to be a HUGE problem for everyone that lives out at the beach. I hope it gets fixed soon.
“… the fridge will be closed for weeks,”
Order in!
What is in the Photo's is NOT a Pillar it looks like a beam. The TV channel in the video is describing it that 3 of 4 plates of steel are fracture and the 4th is 20% broken. I've never built a bridge, this one was built in 1947 from some reports, but I think this beam was drawn as a box beam in a factory rather than welding in a jig, as described by newsman.
I am guessing, at the junction of the vertical with the horizontal, there are two horizontal beams joined behind that larger plate. If so, it was a bad design from the beginning....................
Yes, a beam instead of a Pillar, as the article described it.
True, our last governor was a RINO. Did it even get reported to the state? Does the state do the inspections.
I can tell you they are busy building major roads, but not fixing older bridges or small city/town roads.
I gave my conservative observation, not the local propaganda. Still makes it major news.
And to add insult to injury, the replacement for the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge had cracked welds traced back to a Chinese construction company.
> I used to live by San Francisco in the 60’s. All the bridges we used are still standing and doing fine.
Uhhhhnhhhh, including the Bay bridge which was completely rebuilt at a cost of billion$?
“WE DON’T KNOW HOW LONG REPAIR WILL TAKE.”
I CAN’T HEAR YOU!
