My Dad bought a 1956 Buick Special identical to this and I had a fit because he made me wait about a year and a half to get my learners permit to drive it. ;^)

That’s very much like the Buick my uncle had back in the 60s, although his was red and white. What I remember most about it was the 3 slots on the front fender.

Yep, the Specials had 3 holes and the other more expensive models had 4 holes.

the Specials had 3 holes and the other more expensive models had 4 holes. Yes, like the pricing on a pair of jeans today. The more holes, the more they cost. :)
Price: $239.99
Price: $399.99
(I made up the prices, but I don't think they're too far off)

You could make a movie short around how the song was solicited and made and the aftermath
Ike and his band got paid diddly.....
He was only 19
Sam Phillips...you had to watch him
Him and Chess records who promoted the song took advantage

Ha! You’re probably close.
I tease my two granddaughters about that very thing and they’re old enough to know better, the youngest is in college.

For a good design, form follows function
Today, autos are designed to function well and that includes aerodynamics. The form achieves the best shape at cruising speed to achieve the best gasoline consumption rate

Yes, I understand all that. But at what cost?
I guess in the not-too-distant future all cars will look identical, a result of that “perfect” functional design. Same perfect aerodynamic shape, same everything. This same general idea could apply for any product going forward. Who knows, maybe even humans one day, via bio-engineering. Hard to improve off perfection.

Sounds like ours.
Had the coolers on the back seat floor and my Dad cut a piece of plywood to cover the coolers and the back seat, covered with blankets. i.e. giant playpen! (Pre-seat belts)
Good times.
