The researchers were puzzled by the fact that there is a respectable number of people who are testing positive for COVID-19 by PCR long after the infection was gone.
Admittedly anecdotal, but this appears to be happening a lot to people booking cruises, perhaps due to the recency of that population being tested.
A review of many posts on CruiseCritic.com has people complaining that they tested positive on PCR tests and were denied entry onto cruise ships despite having had COVID-19 months ago and are no longer infected.

To the point I made in an earlier post:
This is not a retrovirus.
We know there are endogenous retroviruses in pretty much every eukaryotic organism. So why have we not found endogenous viruses (which are not retroviruses) populating our genome before now?

He references: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33330870/ from December 2020... and https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33958444/ from May of this year.

You can ignore the published evidence if you like. I prefer to base my conclusions on more than just a few “select” experts.
