Rotsa ruck, Jemian!
Here’s my story with the IRS... I E-filed 6/14/21 (We in OK got an automatic extension until 6/15 because of the paralyzing winter weather we had).
Until two days ago, I kept getting a response on the IRS2Go app that my return was still being processed. Then the message said my refund had been recalculated downward by $600, with four possible explanations, only one of which possibly could have applied, and that I’d get a letter dated 9/27 explaining in more detail.
So, I checked my credit union balance yesterday to see if the revised refund had been electronically deposited and found that the IRS had made THIRTY-SEVEN deposits to my account yesterday, totaling over $25,000.00!! My CU confirmed that they had all been made in my name, and advised me to contact the government to resolve things.
I tried several numbers, and they all said that, due to high call volumes, I should try back at a later date. I have no doubt that that the high volumes are directly connected to the sheer incompetence like what I’m reading about in this thread, and what I’m experiencing right now. Tomorrow, I’ll call the local IRS office, and if that looks like another futile exercise, I too will be calling my congresswoman’s office and perhaps the IRS advocate, too.
The irony is that I just spent weeks beating my head against the wall with the SSA before finally getting an issue resolved, and now I get to re-enter the byzantine nether world of bureaucratic opacity to resolve an issue caused by others’ ignorance and negligence. Fun times.
Always send the tax returns through the Post office with a signature required at receiving the documents. You have that proof, then go tell them to go F themselves...
Your mail in ballot is absolutely safe, accurate and on time.
I can’t imagine in my wildest dreams not using USPC registered mail wit a return receipt. That’s the only way I send any of my tax payments.
Similar to other stories here, we e-filed in May and didn’t get our refund for nearly twelve weeks. They are clearly just really far behind in getting things handled. Good luck!
I had to be vigilant, too. The first person I spoke to was the typical swamp creature, but the next lady I spoke to was extremely helpful. I saved her name and associate number in my cellphone and worked directly with her. It took almost a year, but we got all the fines waived.
I have the same issue. Mailed at end of March. Nothing has occurred.
I chatted in early August with a IRS rep who confirmed there is no record of a start-up on the paperwork, and that several million paper submissions are just sitting there...mostly behind because of Covid. I asked ‘when’ this would rectified...she had no idea.
My refund would have been less than $600, so it’s not that big of a deal (yet). Do I expect it to come in 2021? No, and it wouldn’t surprise me if it’s toward the end of 2022 before I get this refund.
All of this leads me to believe the whole model of existence for the IRS is gutted by Covid, and will never function again. Paper submissions? I don’t see any way they can work now.
I rarely resort to personal abuse here on Free Republic. Heck, we are all amongst patriots here, after all!
But, sheesh! What a stupid question!
The answer to any such question I always give is: For reasons!
To pose such a question presupposes that the filer might be in the wrong.
Why presuppose that?
Given its egregious public record with respect to "customer relations," it's fair to say that the IRS - were it a private company - would have long since gone out of business!
Regards,
When by USPS, always send certified/registered.
Send again, and then request the late filing fees be dismissed. You’ll likely need to call. Be prepared to wait on hold for a few hours.
Based on my observations, the IRS fell behind.
No need to panic, but you must follow up sooner than later.
The IRS thanks you for making their job to surveil you and tax the sh*t out of you just that much easier and convenient!
Regards,
Shoo, before I get the broom out.
To pose such a question presupposes that the filer might be in the wrong.
I'm 4-0 against the IRS.
How about you, twerp?
Excellent observation.
This matter would get their attention IMMEDIATELY.
He's a legend in his own mind.
How about you, twerp?
This is how FReepers stick together?
I have no idea why you are being so abusive. My one criticism of you was in referring to your question (not you) as "stupid" - after first explicitly clarifying that we FReepers should practice civility. You respond with two separate postings attacking me personally. Do you have a chip on your shoulder?
Let's please "bury the hatchet" before this develops into a feud.
Regards,
I agree, the States are already doing this. They are forcing electronic as the only option available for certain things. Especially business services such as Sales tax collection Etc.
And that is exactly how they did it, they ignored paper returns and then threatened fines. So in turn everyone capitulated when they should have fought it. If enough had refused to do it they would have backed off.
LOL
Great results! Thanks for sharing that.
Next time try using the PO Online ClickNShip. Just stop by the PO and pick up a bunch of the Priority Mail Flat Rate envelopes. They’re normally in a lobby display with boxes, etc., so no line.
Then go online and sign up for the ClickNShip service. Easy Peezy. You can ship that Flat Rate envelope stuffed with as much paperwork as you cram in there for $7.95. I’ve gotten about 3/4” of papers in one. Not IRS, but Probate stuff.
Signature Confirmation costs an extra $2.90, and online tracking is free via email and text. Normal delivery in US is 3/4 days. Then just drop it in any mailbox.
Check it out. No long lines.
Perfect! Thank you. I will do that.
