The more I reflect on the Bush years the more it becomes clearer that the family was indeed embedded in the swamp.
George was a better choice than McCain or Kerry, but as we have learned its a selection from a list of swampers until Trump came along.
I agree with the overall gist of your post, however, I do respect Powell's resignation/retirement from his CJCS position over Les Aspin's dithering in Somalia. Powell did make strong recommendations regarding assets needed in country for execution of the US Military's mission which Aspin basically ignored. Powell submitted his resignation on 9/30/93, just a few days before things went south on Operation Gothic Serpent. It was embarrassing to the Clinton admin and ultimately led to Aspin's resignation.
Would that Milley and Austin had the same good sense with regards to the disastrous Afghanistan pull out.
Get on out there, boy, and round up the thousands and thousands prepared to follow you in battle on the We-Spit-On-Colin-Powell-campaign.

You realize the incongruity of claiming Colin Powell shared the values of McCain and Romney….when he very publicly voted against both.

I totally agree with that. The nation was celebrating after Gulf War I and the media felt the need for black hero. Behind the scenes, Powell was against most everything that proved successful in the war that made him a national hero.
That said, I wish Trump would have waited a few months to make his comments. The guy is not even in the ground yet. Also, it takes attention away from all the other crisis facing our nation — empty shelves, inflation, illegal immigration, gender bs, cargo ships, $85 billion in weapons to the Taliban, etc. The media have to love Trump because he takes the attention off biden.
Let’s examine how “PRINCIPLED” one is to vote for a person ( OBOZO) who would be extremely destructive for one’s country just because he shares your skin color.
I didn’t say he shared their values. I said he shared in being proclaimed a “principled Republican”, just like them.

When I was a kid, I used to spend my summers on a farm.
The neighbor’s bull pasture was right next to this farm.
My Uncle took me out to the fence between his farm and the bull pasture.
He told me that bulls are big and fast and will hurt you if you mess with them.
“You mess with the bull and you’ll get the horn.”
Too bad Powell didn’t spend any time on a farm.
