It’s just a word problem meant to confuse the solver with nonsense information or wording..... it’s very simple.

“There were some people on a train. 19 people get off the train at the first stop. 17 people get on the train. Now there are 63 people on the train. How many people were on the train to begin with?”
The simple answer only accounts for how many got on and off the train, but it’s also possible that people were born or perished on the train along the way.
Those 6 year olds aren’t from California.
As with most things like this, it’s poorly written.

The correct answer is, what do you want it to be in today’s modern math. Kind of like this:
CEO is hiring a CPA. He has three candidates. He asks the first I have one question for each of you. Answer correctly, you are hired. So he asks, what is 2+2. First lady jumps up and says, 4, so easy. CEO says, wrong answer, go. Next guy says it must be a trick question. Hum, perhaps 5!. CEO says, lame answer, go. Final candidate says, the correct answer is, what do you want it to be? YOUR HIRED.
It depends on how many aboard were vaccinated. There were undoubtedly a few “uncleans” but they were off-boarded somewhere near the local Terazian Platz ‘hotel’ last seen entering some showers after their long trip.

Reading the explanation in the article was more confusing.

I don’t care what math says the answer is. The correct answer is 42. The correct answer is always 42. 42 is the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe and everything!
Here’s an even easier one.

Also, did 17 people leave in terror because of the suicide bomber? Was anybody blowed up before the first stop?
