I don't want corporate hands in my accounts, and for a good reason:
It was a September several years ago when I received a bill from Verizon stating I owed them about $1000 because I hadn't paid my cell phone bill since the previous February.
Back then I was still paying by mail but had the ability to go to online and even automatic payments, but I refused. I had to fax my receipts to some Verizon office and was lucky enough to actually get a letter four days later stating I was actually paid up and the charge was a mistake.
If I had automatic bill pay Verizon would have yanked a grand out of my bank account and would probably have just given me credits over the next several months, and back then I really would have been hurt by a withdrawal of that size.
I will never use automatic withdrawal because of the possibility companies may screw up or worse.
Your “4th grade” math analysis /conclusions that 3G elimination is SOLELY due to economic factors is akin to a ‘milk, eggs, butter, cheese’ dismissal of NEW truth.
Wow that sentence, much like your assertion that they’re getting rid of 3G just to track you, makes not one damn lick of sense.
Some truths are eternal. Companies want to make money. That is an eternal truth. One way to make money is to drop costs. Like the cost of maintaining a 20+ year old communication network that is horribly post dated and can’t work on any of the new hot equipment. Another way to make money is to increase sales, like getting the people still hanging on to old crusty technology to buy some new hotness.
It’s economic factors. Period. Anybody saying otherwise is spewing nonsense. Like that sentence. Really. That’s just straight up gobbledygook.
Congratulations Comrade. You own nothing and you're happy.
Yes. And saying that one word louder doesn’t make the sentence any less gobbledygook.
Like Don Ohlmeyer said “the answer to all your questions is money”.
Off to the re-education camps with you!
Yesterday's conspiracy theories are today's truth. Where have you been?
It’s economic factors. Period. Anybody saying otherwise is spewing nonsense. Like that sentence. Really. That’s just straight up gobbledygook.
Again, yesterday's conspiracy theories have been proven to be today's truth. Where have you been?
The infrastructure costs for 3G were sunk long ago and have been nothing more than pure gravy (profit) for telecom. That's a fact whether or not you or I like it.
I don't have a dog in this hunt. I'm hanging onto my 4 year old Galaxy S9 as long as I can, primarily because I don't want or need 5G nor the higher costs associated with it.
What's the problem with that, other than impacting your Wireless Carrier profit margins and dividends you receive as a result?
Yesterday’s idiocy is today’s idiocy. Just because clowns want to believe it doesn’t make it true.
While there is sunk cost there is also continuing costs. Antennae need to be maintained, the towers they’re on need to be maintained, often times that land is rented which must continue to be paid, they burn electricity. Not to mention they replace the antennae and make them much more useful 5G towers.
My phone was old and crusty and crashing. I upgraded. Went 5G. No biggy. I don’t give a damn if you upgrade or not. I’m pointing out that somebody saying they’re ending 3G to EOL phones you can easily disconnect from the battery so they can track is saying paranoid nonsense.
I make no money from wireless. In fact, my money comes from one of the oldest wired forms of communication in the world. But I’m a big fan of logic and thinking. Which the 3G EOL conspiracy violates both.
Well now you’re shouting. And still haven’t explained what the hell you’re talking about. So, guess we’re done. You’re wrong. We both know it. Have fun with your new phone. And don’t worry, they aren’t tracking you. You aren’t that interesting. Trust me.
There ain’t no conspiracy theories anymore. There’s just ain’t been revealed/realized.
No. There are. And most of them are complete nonsense. And the people who believe them are pathetic idiots.
“xactly, discostu idiocy/imbecilitly
you were led to water. You puked in it. You said hands down the least sensible sentence I have seen in 20 years on FR. And now you’re whining. Really. If the shoe fits.
Now really, got better things to do. Have a great life.
And yet, its near impossible to pull the battery from the newer phones without breaking them first or being a repair tech.
Just sayin'...
The only thing I know for certain anymore is this: There's no such thing as truth.
(mic drop ...)
“Hardware as a service”
Sadly, that sounds very consistent with Apple’s philosophy. They want to own and tightly control everything, including users (and before Apple fanboys attack... I’ve owned iPads for 10 years).
I think this is completely different than “software as a service” because the only software you actually own is software you’ve written. Otherwise you license the software...SaaS is just another licensing model. And yes, even if you are running Linux and use only Open Source software, you’re still licensing it. Frankly, I’ve been very happy with my Microsoft 365 and Adobe Creative Cloud subscriptions. I’ve done both the perpetual and subscription licensing models and for software that is upgraded regularly, the subscription basis is nice.
Hardware is a separate issue.
“Nobody is going through all this trouble to track the 10 people in the world that disconnect their phone batteries.”
Thus saith the useful idiot !
“...they aren’t tracking you.”
Thus says the useful idiot.
