Under the new law, the home owner will have his cool assault rifle impounded. Too bad. Perhaps he should saw off the pistol grip and paint the rifle a pink color with flowers. Much less lethal that way.

My exact thinking on that, but, it was a very stressful situation.
Perhaps a shotgun might be better with less chance of accidentally killing someone a block away.

Indeed. I’ve been thinking about the situation since I saw the vid. The stress has to be incredible. The guy did great. I hope I never have to find out how I would do in a similar situation.
I have thought about a scenario where cars were between me and the perp. My decision us to fall to the ground and make every effort to shoot under the vehicle at the assailant’s feet. When they fall, shoot them until deceased. Pain from foot shot will probably make their weapon jump and make a run for it.
The key is to have a plan, so that you don't just react.
If I see multiple threats at my front door, I'm either staying inside to defend from a protected position, or going around to the side yard to engage from an unexpected, AND protected position.
