Yeah, it seemed to pause right at the coastline for hours.
Living on those Florida beaches is a gamble for sure. Sad.
Been about 40 years since I was in that area, spent a summer in Punta Gorda.
I had no idea that now 1 million people live in Charlotte and Lee counties. It was a tenth of that when I was there.
that sucker stood tall...he outlasted the camera which went down right before our beloved number 9
How are things in Estero (where I lived from 2014-2017)?
Estero and Bonita Springs have seen HUGE development in just the last decade. When I was living there things were being built left and right on a seemingly daily basis.
Great video.
RIP SurgeCam9
And SurgeCam5. I hope the palm tree made it.
Anyone know how North Port fared?
Yes, it’s grown tremendously. And still growing. Plaute builders was becoming real active in the area lately with pricey homes. I can’t imagine the money they’ve lost, not to mention the people purchasing homes on spec.
Times Square in Fort Myers sits on a strip of land in the middle of water and the 10 Mile Canal. This area is about 1000 feet wide and sits pretty much where the storm hit first. This is not shocking. I’m sure the people living there or having businesses are plenty upset and I hope they will be ok but they cannot be completely shocked, either. I hope to God they were all smart enough to vacate.
That’s heartbreaking.
I remember when Harvey did that to Port Aransas/Rockport, TX in 2017 before coming to Houston and lingering, dumping record amounts of rain in the Greater Houston area. The damage was mind-boggling.
They came back, as will Ft. Myers, Punta Gorda and that area, but it will take a while. My prayers are with those affected.
Noticed that Sec. of DHS Mayorkas was on TV assuring everyone that everything possible was being done. I wish I had been there to ask if the same fine job that was being accomplished on the southern border would be repeated in Florida.
Cam 9-—how high off the ground was it??
I heard anywhere from 8 to 10 feet.
I was in that area once too as a teenager, around the same time as you, to visit my dad’s biological father, his wife, and my young aunt and uncle lol. We all went to Busch Gardens and to the beach, my aunt took me along to hang out with her friends. Grandpa (I barely knew ye) has since passed and I have no clue where his family is but heard they’d moved years ago.
Spent many a beautiful year vacationing in Sanibel Island and Captiva. How did those fair?
Define “leveled”?
Drama-queenitis seems to be a pandemic.
