Same here. We had the one family TV, controlled by parents. Shows were safe for all ages to watch. Yes, there were adult themes, but done so that adults “got it” but kids didn’t (I thought Miss Kitty just ran a saloon and must have spent a fortune on chairs that kept getting busted up — I’m sure my parents knew her true profession).
Yes, the shows were so much better written and explored human nature. We learned more about the important things, human nature, making difficult decisions, making good or bad choices. No pushing an agenda, just normal human stuff. The humor was kinder, we laughed at ourselves and what funny creatures we humans can be, not the mean-spirited put-down humor that’s taken over. We kids probably picked up a bigger and better vocabulary, too.
And of course we learned about other times and places. The Old West, Pioneer days, WWII — and being a girl, I loved what I called “castle movies” with knights in armor and ladies in beautiful long dresses — and cool castles of course. Pirate movies were cool, too. Oh, and I loved anything Danny Kaye was in. I adored Red Skelton (although I could not figure out how such a nice gentleman could have such a scary name as Red Skeleton lol). That man could make you laugh and cry at the same time. A rare gift.
On the rare occasions I watch TV or video, it’s almost always old stuff, same as you.
#10 I kept asking my parents why he didn’t marry Miss Kitty, which must have been kind of awkward.
Parents: Miss Kitty ran a cathouse.
BTW, the Nero Wolfe TV show with William Conrad was pretty bad. They dumbed down everything, did not do the office right at all, had a pathetic beta-male for Archie, and they made it contemporary (late ‘70s).
William Conrad just has the right voice, but he didn’t embody the character properly.
Assets!
Lol! I would have kept asking where the kitties were. Actually, they told me Matt Dillon was dedicated to his job and it was too dangerous for married life. Which led to more annoying four-year-old questions.
When ever Miss Kitty was on the prowl for Matt he would break off and say he had to go stable his horse.
just wow... the quality of actors never dropped off
LOL! I guess the marshal pay wasn’t so good. That, or the NAB Code.
I think maybe Sonny and Cher did a parody of it on their show too?
QM shows should have its own Pluto channel.
I like the idea but my one problem is that editor could have cross faded the segments instead of direct cuts.
yeah...comedians used to make fun of him, but I worked the late shift and would come home and watch reruns of Cannon and it was really cool...especially compared to the unpalatable crap they make now. Interesting story lines, plus he constantly made fun of himself for being fat, but he never shied away from the dinner table! Cool guy!
I agree. Other than a couple of seasons of The Fugitive, none of the QM shows are available for streaming anywhere on Roku.
I have the DVDs of the available titles and the limited release soundtrack CDs.
