He shot him 9 times because that was all the bullets the gun would hold. When someone is trying to kill you you must do all you can to eliminate the threat, as long as the perp had a gun in his hand he was a threat, the shooter had no way of knowing the gun was only a BB gun.

There's a related thread where all nine shots are shown; discussing the nine shots without seeing the nine shots is pointless. (You would have known that the shooter had already picked up the perp's gun before he fired the last round.)

Think the guy went a little over the top but if he was ex military they taught us when in doubt, keep shooting. Under stress that repetitive training kicks in.

The shooter demonstrated a lack of awareness about his surroundings that I think the ex-military/ex-LE possibility has already been dismissed.

I have watched the video three times. what I see the shooter do is go over to the downed perp and take up the gun and take it back to the table he was eating at. I didn't see him throw it against a wall.

The shooter went to the assailant and took the gun he thought was real because it was close enough the perp might try to use it even with a few bullets in him.

I'd say the shooter deserves a metal and free tascos for life. That perp's crime life has been -to quote Barney- "nipped ii the bud". One less thug for society to hasve to deal with later or support for decades.
