But 9 times?... Seems like a waste of ammo. Maybe he had a .25 or .380 with jacketed rounds.

If the hero had reloaded and emptied a second magazine, I still would consider his response reasonable and prudent, given the threat.
If he had reloaded and emptied a third magazine, I might consider it a misdemeanor violation of an excessive noise ordinance, or littering.

aim COM, empty magazine. Perp still standing, do it again. Chances are slim perp is wearing armor, especially the idiots that rob a place with a fake gun. Even if they are, taking 9 shots to the torso is going to leave some damage, hopefully enough to incapacitate them, but assume otherwise.

Just compare this shooting to the last self-defense shooting that generated this much activity here on FR: Kyle Rittenhouse.
A 17-year-old with a semi-automatic rifle demonstrated FAR more situational awareness and self-control than this guy. EVERY shot of his was measured, reasonable, and completely justifiable.
If that kid had been given half the leeway that people here are giving Baldy, he could have perforated half of the crowd around him with nary a complaint here.
But he would almost certainly be behind bars for the rest of his life.
I know it's easy to judge this in hindsight, but I think that last shot is going to be problematic for the shooter.

The thug was brandishing a gun, threatening people’s lives. OF COURSE the man should have shot him until he ran out of bullets.
It appeared he was headed towards the guy in the back left corner of the restaurant by the door.
With that being said, I'm surprised he didn't dash out the door when the thug started robbing folks. Probably just stunned with surprise and disbelief.

Interesting headline. I suppose it is likely that this robber did in fact have “a fake gun so many times” before he was finally dispatched.
