I’m sharing this truck with Beau. While I CAN safely drive it, and I learned how to QUICKLY put it into 4WD last week when I got stuck on an icy hill, it’s a tiny bit too much truck for me. He’s a big guy, and even my 2008 Escape wasn’t all that comfortable for him. (That one went to a family friend in need, though it needed a new muffler.)

Anyhow, I want a smaller vehicle for just myself. Either another Escape (but with 4WD) or a Subaru Forester or similar.

But I, like everyone else, is waiting for the economy to turn around again. Again, cash, not financed. ;)

Go to the Auto Nation website for a few hours or a day. It is easy there to get a fix on what new and used prices are for trucks and automobiles. Of course, you buy your truck wherever you like!

Dealer offered a friend a 1794 Tundra for 4k off sticker. Not sure if that’s good or not but better than it was a few months ago

Everything I am hearing is saying that a big glut of used cars is about to come onto the market as anticipated repossessions skyrocket this year. I would wait on any vehicle purchase.

Boy, you sure are touchy about being asked why you want new flashy toy.

I DON’T drive an old vehicle. I am not a luddite. In fact, I have been in high tech for 35 years.

Nothing wrong with admitting you WANT the creature comforts. But don’t whine about having to pay for them.

Gotta be careful with those models. They were experimenting

Used to work with a guy that swore by 4runners and drove them exclusively.

He wouldn’t even think about getting rid of one until it had at least 250k miles on it......and then MAYBE he would get rid of it.

I bought a 1980 SR5 Carolla liftback coupe new off the dealership lot......it had around 250k on it when I wrecked it and tore up the front end so bad no body shops at the time wanted to touch it.

Sold it to a guy that lived in the next county for $600. Little did I know he was a body and front end guy. A couple months later a coworker told me he spotted it running around down there......he knew it was mine because I had a spot of primer under the driver side mirror. I bet that guy got another 100k out of it.

I’ve never heard stories like yours and mine from people that own domestic vehicles in the same class.....Nissan either for that matter.

Like I said, I love my Jeep but I am lobbying my wife to let me sell or trade and get another Tacoma........so far no luck. ๐Ÿ˜

Have a 2009 Ford Ranger. 247,000 miles. Still passes the rigorous NH inspection and just had a new catalytic converter put in for 2 grand. That’s 4 months of truck payments but I put money away every month to keep her going. Best truck I ever owned. I’ll pass away long before she does.

I’ve had my share of vehicles of many different makes and I can say with complete confidence that that ‘80 Carolla was without a doubt THE overall best vehicle I’ve ever owned hands down.

Hear you on that. For my family the decision to lease, buy new or buy used is similar to choosing the right tool for the job. The choice varies by use, need, cost, how long we plan to own it, etc.

Reading this thread about preserving your existing old truck instead of buying new provides me some comfort.

I just sank $2K+ into my 2004 Toyota Tundra with 170K miles. Took it to the local Toyota dealership.

New water pump, timing belt, plus minor BS.

Given what they charged me I thought I'd been ripped off. Had to push back pretty forcefully on the intake guy's insistence on their selling me a new $et of tire$.

But based on what I'm reading here I'm farther ahead preserving the Old Gal. So there's that.

Old photo. Dashboard kittehs say "hi!".

Difference in the overall quality is stark IMO.

Also IMO, that’s the difference between union labor and non union labor.

The Camaro was not produced fromm 2003 thru
2009. Perhaps you’re confusing this with
the Mustang, which has been in production
since it’s inception.

Yep. Replacing my 04 Ford F-150 for one just like it is north of $75k. I have all of the tools and the know how to fix whatever it needs. Fortunately, itโ€™s a basic truck that doesnโ€™t have a lot of computer crap. Iโ€™m getting ready to spend about $2k to have it re- upholstered. Based on the price of the new truck, I have a lot of wiggle room to buy new parts for it. The body is in excellent shape.
Iโ€™m guessing that those are Viking kitties on the dashboard of your Toyota.
