No one has mentioned the “Father of the Constitution”, James Madison. In addition to many of the names already listed, he ranks among the greatest Americans.

We would never have had the United States without George Washington.

He is so far in first place that he is laps around any choice for number 2.

Okay, I’ll admit it. I’m a Marxist at heart. So I’m going with a very underrated Marxist, Chico Marx.

I’m partial to John Leland of Virginia. He cut a deal with Madison that most likely led to us NOT having a “state church”.

George Washington
John Adams

All those places named after them too, even in the same spot!

Say Phinneous, you ever notice that "Washington" [וושינגטון] begins with vav-shin, the letters that are the USA in JerUSAlem [ירושלים]?

Just thought I'd mention it. How about that Residence Act, eh? Talk about timing.

It's like those posters that went up on account of the US embassy move:

"Discover the story. Embrace the connection."

Barry Goldwater.

None of us would be at FR today had not Goldwater carefully enunciated the conservative cause.

#1 George Washington declined an offer of kingship.
#2 Ronald Reagan held back the Leftist scourge for 8 years.
#3 Donald Trump held battled an even more powerful Left, but it remains to be seen how he will rank in greatness - very possibly #1.

Lincoln is not on my list at all. He made very moving speeches that seduced a lot of people, but ultimately, he used brutal military force to quash dissent - thereby missing the whole point of “by the people”.

I thank God that this list is far more difficult to write than one of our “least favorite” Americans, which would write itself.
