Thanks for the info- I don’t find TCM too woke ‘Yet’, although they do include lgbtq movies once in awhile forl like a day or 2 or so but not constantly through the day- We just record all the movies that arent woke and watch at leisure

Durign “pride” month they featured some gay movies during certain hours- We just avoided tcm during that time- We can record ahead for like 2 weeks- so i choose all the normal non woke movies throughout the day each day to record- We usually watch 1-2 movies a night, and it’s nice having a list of only the ones that we want to watch-

TCM is about the only channel we really watch except for news, animal shows (even though they are insanely woke these days- we still enjoy the wildlife scenes- ) Sci Fi is another one i like- i rarely if ever watch the letter channels like TBS CBS etc anymore- so i don’t care about those- though they do sometimes carry stuff like the olypmpics or whatever- espn is another must have but only for racing- and mma

I have a cheap LG Blueray but they are really a commodity item.

I got rid of Spectrum cable and landline last year, after many, many years with Time Warner. My son asked me to add The NFL Network to our cable line-up. I called customer service three different times, each time being required to sit on hold while I was transferred to the sales department, which never picked up my call. I spent a total of three hours between the three calls, having my phone on speaker waiting to be connected. I was kept in a perpetual holding pattern. The next day I took my DVR, second cable box, and both remotes to the local Spectrum store here, and told him to cancel my cable and landline, and retain the internet.

The clerk offered me the higher internet speed for free, but then told me I'd have to use their own router. I told him I use a VPN from time to time, and questioned if that would be a problem. He told me I would have to ask their permission to use it. Scratch that.

A week later I had to call Spectrum because the asshole at the store showed I'd brought all my equipment back, but he never stopped my cable or landline service. Then I had to call them back again a month later, because I discovered they were still charging me for something related to cable. I will never do business with Spectrum ever again.

I have the same identical situation here. I want to leave Spectrum, but am not “technically inclined” and don’t know how to do something to replace the cable.

Several stream services just doubled their rates. We axed them.

Right. YouTube has gone from $49.00 per month to over $70.00. In just three years.

Streaming services know that people would pay to be gouged by cable. So now they can gouge too.

Here is the deal: We anguished over this for more than a year. We really thought we’d miss something. I took inventory of what we actually watch, and my cable selections were minimal: some Food Network shows, F1 and Indycar racing, golf, that’s about it. I felt like I needed local TV stations as I am too far out for an antenna, and you occasionally need to watch local news. I am a Comcast subscriber as that is all that’s available to me. Here’s what I did. I bought a modem. It is the same one Comcast provides. (Got it at Best Buy) It cost about $100. Less than a year’s “rent” on their box. Setup could not have been easier. It’s like the box knows what to do when you connect it. I have returned ALL of their equipment. That saves on all the rental charges and FEES! I have Roku units for streaming. Between YouTube TV ($65/mo), Britbox ($75/yr) and Amazon Prime we get EVERYTHING we ever want to watch. My Comcast bill has gone from $243/mo to $70/mo. I think the only channel I haven’t found is the History Channel, which frankly has very little history on it now. I haven’t regretted my decision for one minute. Not. One. Minute. Do it today!

I wish I could cut the cord myself, but I will have to train my boyfriend to use the Chromecast.

Roku. Get a Roku.

True. Consumers have demanded Cable offer à la carte for DECADES.

Consumers got the middle finger. Now cable is getting what they deserve.

” I will never do business with Spectrum ever again.”

I HATE Spectrum too. The absolute worst cable of all the companies I’ve used over the years. They’re the only cable company around here, so it’s them or nobody.

Yeah, “Mad About You,” “Friends,” and “Seinfeld.”

Not one of which pushed any sort of political gaslighting agenda at its audience.

I dumped cable in 2020 and haven’t looked back.

My internet is fiber and it is not tied to the cable companies at all. Plus fiber is awesome!

I do have Directv Stream however because I am addicted to sports.

I helped my friend get off of Cox and switch to Verizon 5G and move to Directv Stream and he saved $150 per month.

Yeah, it's called incompetence. I have the same problem here with a local McDonald's. I rarely go there. I only like their breakfast sandwiches, but am a night hawk, so I'm not up mornings to go there. The very rare occasion that I am up that early, and manage to get to McDonald's before they shut down serving breakfast, I can always count on them screwing up a simple order off the menu. It doesn't matter if I don't go there for six months...when I do finally go, my order is always wrong.

Because they are too greedy. They are cutting their own throats with absurd pricing and crooked extortion packages. So are Dish and Direct TV.

If you really want the cable channels, and have a smart TV, there are several apps that come with digital DVR. I forget the names, I’ve been exploring which one to subscribe to.

Youtube TV definitely has DVR. But there are a couple of others like Sling and maybe Tubi or Fubu or gosh there are a number of them with names I cannot remember. I just see them on the Samsung App Store. Some come with different packages and different channels but several of them offer DVR via digital.

We just moved to a new place literally days ago (still not completely out of the old place) so we have the internet hooked up at the new place and cut the cable cord from the old place. The premium channels we can get ala cart by their app or through Amazon Prime. The Samsung has an app called TVPlus (or PlusTV?) we’ve been using. It still adds up when you consider the cost of internet, plus all the subscriptions if you want premium channels and/or if you want one of those apps that stream the cable channels. But no cable box to rent, and you can cancel this or that streamer whenever you want. I had Disney+ for a month to watch Mandalorian. Cancelled it after a couple of weeks. I figure we can do that going forward. We never saw Yellowstone so we may add Paramount+ for a month to binge it. (If you get Paramount on Amazon they block Yellowstone! So we cancelled that).

There are also some hacks out there if you’re into that sort of thing. There is an Amazon firestick hack that can get you feature films before they even release to streamers. But you have to get the right firestick (and older model, used perhaps) and crack it. But it works. Just plugs into the HDMI port on the back of the TV.

If you don’t have cable TV you can’t watch CNN. How then could you get the news?

The Liberty Daily and of course right here.
