125 pounds? A 19-foot python weighs a lot more than that.

Back in the 70’s it was popular to have snakes, particularly pythons as pets. Trouble was when the things became too big for the terraiums they were kept in. People, mostly in the Everglades would release the things into a habitat they previously never were native to.

There is still, in FL if recalling correctly—by legislature funded a BOUNTY paid for every python, anaconda, non-native species caught and usually killed. This is a very young professional hunter in the Everglades.

People buy exotic snakes, keep them awhile and then.... turn them loose into the Everglades where they grow to huge size- (way longer than 19 ft—as in normal size in Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay vast swamplands their natural habitat)

. No natural enemy in FL- they even kill and try to swallow alligators— usually can’t and die with them in their “neck” (non reversible teeth line the entry— pointing toward the mouth allows them to swallow prey in gradual movement).

Can see these on the dirt roads at night in neighborhoods- they kill dogs, puppies, cats and a huge danger to children.

Good riddance.

$50/head paid by State of Florida, any size- So 400$ days are not out of the ordinary.

That plus hurricanes have blown through and released captive ones that way.

Why take it alive?
I’d be inclined to approach with a shotgun...

They make boots out of them.

Ugh, it had to be snakes. I don’t even want to be close to snake skin boots.

Too many encounters with the things. Y’all know a few from previous posts. Had a 6’ racer fly up and smack me between the eyes and his cousin did figure eights around my feet, etc. The kitties love dropping live wigglies at my feet.

In a remote corner of New Mexico I was walking through some grass after a hunt. I was close enough to be talking to my buddy who was sitting on the back tailgate of his truck. It was a skinny buggy whip type rattler, maybe 3 feet long. I levitated straight up until the soles of my boots were about 5 feet off the ground, flew about 6 feet sideways, and let out a girl sound I didn’t even know I could make. By some miracle I didn’t get bit. At least they didn’t release cobras and mambas out into the Everglades.

Do I need a non-resident license, or are they like feral hogs in TX?

In Florida, it is legal to catch and kill Burmese pythons which have no natural predators.

Gators don’t eat snakes?

The problem with constrictors is they wrap themselves around a person and strangle them to death. The ‘bite’ is nothing compared to that.

You really have to trust your partner when going snake hunting.

Years ago jumped out of the pickup to check on a cattle feeder. Realized I was standing on something. Looked down and saw I was standing on a water moccasin. Probably set the world record for standing high jump.
Turned out snake was already dead.
