Especially in.... Montana!? How absurd. Most Montanans don’t eat raw fish, let alone raw beef and certainly not uncooked poorly identified mushrooms. Dave’s Sushi— answer- shut them down. Bozeman...unreal. Rodeos, bbq, beef brisket..not even cheval.
Well Dave’s didn’t do themselves any favors. They failed the health department inspection as soon as they reopened. Bozeman downtown is a full of tourists and that’s where Dave’s is, so they may be able to survive from those unsuspecting customers.
I’m a wild mushroom picker qnd have been safely doing it for years. Rule 1) Eat only mushrooms that can be identified as 100% safe to eat-not 99% but 100%. Rule 2)Thoroughly cook all wild mushrooms, not lightly but thoroughly.
Just because you can eat fresh fish raw doesn’t mean you can eat everything raw, Dave.
Anything to keep people fearful of the boogeyman, and out of the pristine, perfect forests which no one should ever disturb in any way.
I thought Morels mushrooms were supposed to be thoroughly cooked and NOT eaten raw?

Morchella, left, Gyromitra, right. False morels have monomethyl hydrazine, aka rocket fuel. Always cook mushrooms for two reasons: kill bacteria, and for nutrition reasons. Mushrooms need to be cooked to release the protein from the chitinous cell wall. NEVER eat a wild mushroom before conclusively identifying it.
I will say that it does sound like poison but I doubt it was the mushrooms. Some nitwit that decided to soak the mushrooms in some sort of cleaning solution to "sanitize" them maybe.
