It’s always BOGO at my Publix - in one form or another. No one buys it. I think their shelf time is running out.
Exactly. There's no audience or market for this stuff.
Vegetarians and vegans are used to not eating meat. They don't crave fake meat.
Meat eaters aren't going to eat fake meat.
People who want to eat healthy aren't going to eat this overly, overly processed frankenfood.
The good idea fairy failed.
FEED it to the WEF members for 10 years.
If any of them are still alive, then offer that crap to the rest of the world.
If you want a salad....order a salad...
Nobody tries to make imitation vegetables out of meat. (Actually, I would bet that someone has done just that, somewhere, sometime. People do really weird stuff with food. But I’ve never seen it.)
Beyond tasteless.
I was in a street market in Seoul and smelled something really funky. It turns out it was deep fried silkworm larva. Even if I were ever tempted to try eating bugs, that smell would have put me off completely.
I just want to say this about lab-grown “meat.” We use fetal calf serum (FCS) to feed cells grown in labs. The serum is collected from fetuses collected from slaughtered cows at the slaughterhouse. The growth of “meat” in the lab, therefore, requires pregnant cows to be slaughtered. Those who are hyping lab-grown “meat” talk a big deal about how humanely their “meat” is produced by growing just a few cells collected from a living animal. They omit the part about feeding the cells FCS. They do use FCS. Some lab-grown “meat” company applied for and got FDA approval to sell their product for human consumption. I found the application for approval on the FDA website. In the application, it states that all serum used is from cows tested and verified to be free of mad cow disease. The bottom line is that if the radical vegetarians and vegans got their wish and stopped all use of animals for food, it would be impossible to grow an animal cell based fake meat. Because there wouldn’t be any FCS to feed cells.
FCS is sometimes called “FBS” for fetal bovine serum. Same thing.
Actually, vegetarians and vegans DO eat fake meat. It’s part of how they suppress their cravings to eat a more balanced and healthy diet.
Not a moment too soon. This is just one of the symptoms of the mass insanity that grips half of the country (the half that votes Democrat). Suppression of free speech, the phony “climate crisis”, the insane push to disarm the law abiding while encouraging and protecting criminals from and consequences of their actions, the flood of illegal aliens coming with the sole intent of sucking as many unearned benefits out of the taxpayers as they can, the total dishonesty of the MSM, the mad rush to force those who can afford it into inferior EVs and the rest onto public transportation or nothing (15 minute cities), the deliberate increase of inflation to destroy the savings of the middle class, the list is endless.
Wildebeest were designed to be herbivores.Lions were designed to be carnivores. Human beings were designed to be omnivores.
Or use the slices in a vegetable lasagna - Mmmm....
A vegetarian meal can be quite nice, but there’s nothing more dreary than fake meat.
And just like self driving cars another fad whose existence was to milk naive investors from their cash comes to an end..
For a few years I attended San Francisco State University. I had a bumper sticker on several textbooks: P.E.T.A People Eating Tasty Animals. Drove the leftists wacky.
“”Eating insects is not necessarily a bad idea.””
Our dad retired from the Air Force as a Colonel. He survived WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He would entertain his 7 kids in many different ways, including eating bugs in front of us. He repeated that they were protein. Mom just shook her head and thanked God that he survived and came back home. What he would have thought of today’s woke insanity is not printable.
One bite of that horrible stuff explains why. That’s exactly what happened to me. Beyond Beef was on sale at local Kroger so I bought a package. Cooked a piece, took a bite — and it went into the garbage grinder.
OTOH, I can make a really delish dinner with tofu. Have it once a week with yummy veggies anD delish sauce.
I use Trader Joe SOYAKI. But even that could not make
that Beyond GARBAGR palatable.
Just another case of a good “niche” business/product that expanded way too quickly.
In bulk, Ramen is like $0.11 a packâ¦
Made similar such on several occasions and it is tasty, but it’s no substitute for actual meat.
Pork Loin one dollar and ninety eight cents a pound.
Pork got really cheap and beef really expensive under Obama, too.
