When you think about it major airports are designed to have lots of aircraft just miss each other on a systematic basis.

Yeah, that was my first thought...more affirmative action hires.

Just listen to ATC for a couple of days and you will hear the diversity and inclusion.Excuse me, you've mistaken me for someone who can
actually afford the price of an airline ticket
after having to pass through TSA
and getting served poorly in the terminal.
I've got enough diversity and inclusion already, if you don't mind.

I was in a plane recently, just idly looking out my window, and I saw a jet airliner flash past just a few hundred yards away going in the opposite direction.
It was close enough to fill about a third of the window, which to me, seemed damned close. We were flying at altitude and cruising speed, and so was the other plane.
It gave me a start, and I sputtered and looked around, but nobody had seen it, or if they had, didn’t give it a second thought.
I researched it, and I guess that is standard procedure now. But it seemed a bit crazy to me, two planes with a closing speed of over a thousand miles per hour...at that speed, a little miscalculation, but...that is apparently what is done nowadays.

I know Billy Bob Thornton is a Lefty too, but...I just cannot find it in myself not to watch his movies.
I have no problem avoiding any movie with people like Robert DeNiro and not listening to music by the likes of Roger Waters, but...
I just find Thornton so entertaining...well. We all have something.

Isn’t this just the kind of thing that AI should excel in, with close monitoring by qualified humans? It’s like a large complicated game of 3-D chess, and AI should have the added advantage of being able to calculate when to avoid getting too close.

Hubby has to medicate to fly...Cool!
Did you ever wonder where the expression "get the munchies" comes from?
Wonder no longer...
The Strange Case of James C. Munch: Demonizing Cannabis
One of the more entertaining marijuana stories floating around the internet involves a government cannabis “expert” who testified in court that smoking marijuana turned him into a bat.
Not Batman, mind you. But an actual bat, with wings.A Green Meanie

Falling plane parts could always hit your house or wherever you are. You also underscored the reason we don't have flying cars - as portrayed in the Jetsons cartoon of the 1960s.
We have the technology but do you really want drunken cousin Billy dropping empty beer cans into your backyard, or worse?

These close calls are caused by not enough “diversity” of pilots. Well, that and climate change.
To: nickcarraway
When did it change to, “near miss” from, “near hit”?
Near miss doesn’t even sound right.
(Am I the only one that noticed that around a decade ago? It does sound like something a Brit would say...)
