it will certainly become an instant collector’s item- 20 years from now after the gov demands that their liberal followers eat bugs, liberals with the chip will get to reminisce about the ‘good old days’ when people were free to eat what they want’- Republicans in the meantime wil lbe enjoying nice juicy steaks and laughing at the insect eaters

There is such a thing as a chemical burn. While classically spicy foods are seemingly safe the attempt to make things hotter and hotter is stupid. You have mucous membranes and an immune system and a heart! These things will respond to extremely caustic substances.

Capsaicin is a phytochemical extracted from red chili peppers that has broad pharmaceutical applications, including relieving pain, anti-inflammation, and treating psoriasis. In dermatology, capsaicin is primarily used topically for localized areas of chronic pruritus (itch) and chronic neuropathic (nerve) pain. It has been found to help relieve pain from some arthritic conditions such as osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Capsaicin cream is available in a 0.025% or 0.075% strength cream in a 45-g tube under the trade name Zostrix® or Zostrix-HP®

I also believe that a decent percentage of people eating super spicy food, not the chips, but food; are doing it to be trendy. Then there’s the group that genuinely love the super hot.

I just saw in the last 2 weeks in my local convenience store where I get coffee every morning, they had a big warning sign hang from the display, about how hot the chip were and they could cause burning and vomiting.

I bet they’re great dipped in sour cream!

Dairy is the secret antidote for pepper burn.

Reminds me of the joke “How does a Mexican know when he’s hungry?”

Carolina Reapers are top of the charts listed in Scovil heat units for hot peppers.

That’s me! I love hot peppers — aside from the burn, the taste of a good hot pepper is exquisite. I eat habaneros, serranos, jalapenos right off the plant when I pick my garden. May not do that with a reaper though. 😉

“Capsaicin consumption typically causes mouth and throat pain but can also result in more serious health problems including trouble breathing, esophageal damage, and heart problems.”

“and heart problems”

Wonder if something else contributed.

My brother did it to see what it was about, and then allowed his teen kids to try. My nephew threw up, and then went on with life. Weakness. We are breeding weakness into present and future generations.

Unofficially there are two peppers that are supposedly hotter. Pepper X and Dragon's Breathe, both developed by the guy that created the Carolina Reaper. He says that they are both hotter, but they've never been officially rated.

About 20 years ago my uncle planted two rows of hot peppers in his garden. When we harvested them they were so hot no one could eat them because they were so hot. Had about a bushel of them and took them over to a crew of pickers who worked on a local farm. Later I found out they couldn’t eat them either, matter of fact even cutting them stung their eyes.
