That's a shame. I suggest Oakland change it's name to Ukraine.

They’ll get the money; as a friend put it, “You can’t use report cards with these people.” In other words, you can’t have expectations, deadlines, etc.; just placate them and pretend everything is working fine.

...a $267million grant to combat retail theft...
For that kind of money they could just buy the stuff and then give it away to their downtrodden masses.

inept city leaders MISS DEADLINEWhy did the author not consider the possibility that leaders carefully chose, or were told to miss the deadline?

This is not for retailers, this is a looting subsidy. Money in exchange for police defunding just like paying famers to not farm. wtf

This is CA. That’s a more likely purpose to which the money would be put than the effective solution of hiring more cops and deputy DAs who will actually enforce the law

It is absolutely incredible that massive theft can’t be
handled by armed guards and Police Depts. anymore.
It’s almost like the Left has decided that the idea of
“ good and evil” is just a social construct, so when
crime gets ,out of hand, you can throw large amounts of money at the problem and then it will all go away.
