It all sounds demonic to me, so I steer clear of heavy metal.

What do you mean I “hurt your feelings?”
I didn’t know you had any feelings
What do you mean I “ain’t kind?”
I’m just not your kind
What do you mean I “couldn’t be the president
Of the United States of America?”
Tell me something
It’s still “we the people,” right?

If there’s a new way, I’ll be the first in line
But it better work this time

“unique-looking headbanging people”

They’ve all been uniquely unique since 1968.

Dittos.. but freedom reigns, Eve should have never eaten that forbidden fruit. But God knew that would happen so we are to blame.

I have a degree in Music from SDSU in 1978. I love pretty much all kinds of music, although opera and jazz are toward the bottom of my list, lol. As a young person in the 70s and 80s, I wasn’t a big fan of metal, preferring regular and symphonic rock.

I’m 70 now and I rediscovered metal a few yrs ago. Now I love it and I think the most maligned musical groups are bands like Metallica, AC-DC, and Black Sabbath. The stamina required to perform their songs is mind-boggling and their musicianship should be applauded.

Funny - I was thinking the same thing. Either AI or someone that never listened to metal rock.

Seems a certain level of organism just needs that sort of club-drubbing.

Still better than the “mutha fugga, mutha fugga” jungle chanting that another species craves.

The left out one of the most over-represented style-genres: Clap-Trap
I can’t describe it very well. But it is frequently called “news” on NPR and other left-tilt broadcasts and podcasts.
It makes people stupid. And angry.

You know things are bad, when you watch that video and catch yourself saying “at least they’re not all tatted and pierced out the wazoo.”

I tailgated once before a concert (GnR in 2018). It was meh.

….and yet, every announcer and reporter on NPR sound like they’re ingesting downers 24/7.

I have a long time acquaintance who is currently in rehab. At nearly 50 years old he has yet to break a cycle of drug abuse and depression. He uses others and abuses himself. In fact nearly all he thinks about is himself, whether with pride or with loathing. Metallica is one of his favorite bands. I genuinely question whether that music is good for his soul. To the extent any form of music endorses and promotes self-autonomy it has the effect of robbing the soul of true love.

For a very long time (70’s through mid 90’s) Rock was king of the popular concert based music, with Heavy Metal being one of the Dark Knights, some may say Joker.
All that shifted as per amount of money made, in the 90’s with the (Breech)birth of Rap.
I think there is still a solid fan base for hard rock among today’s young people, just not on the scale of what it once was. Country Music went through a similar arch.

I think a majority of 80s metal fans became Conservatives over time.

It’s the grunge folks that are to the left.

I get your point. And I pray your friend finds peace.

We are all as unique as a fingerprint. I love Master of Puppets and I’m still sober. Indeed, Metallica is one of the most popular metal bands ever, yet we don’t have millions in rehab.
