There are so many ways they could kill thousands of people. Dirty (radiation laden) bombs. Targeting vulnerable infrastructure (e.g. bridges, dams, etc.). Targeting ‘soft’ targets (e.g. hospitals, shopping centers, entertainment venues). Or even something as low tech as renting trucks and running them into crowds (like what happened in Nice). If you can think of it, so can they.
You mean can be killed by US citizens. I run into many people daily who walk around unarmed and think it can never happen to them. And, if they are armed, they are often under-armed because of their over-confidence in the handgun they carry.
Make no mistake. In this day and time, the main purpose of a handgun is to keep you alive until you can get your hands on a semi-auto rifle with a 20 to 30 round magazine.

Good advice. Sutherland Springs triggered (no pun intended) a number of churches in our rural locale to form and train church security teams, and (perhaps more important) implement common-sense policies that guard against a gunman getting inside. One example: after service starts, lock the doors and station someone nearby, inside, to open the door as necessary.
This being Texas, many in the congregation are armed.
I’m not deluded into thinking “it can’t happen here”, but I do believe an attack will be quite costly for the attacker, which might be a deterrent.
Middle easterners stand out in rural areas and small towns, too, which could be helpful.

Folks need to be fully ready for trouble during traffic jams. Huge numbers of sitting ducks strapped into their seats unable to move. Bridges are always choke points, especially in the DC area.
