When I was in public grade school, one had to pay 2 cents for white milk, and 3 cents for chocolate milk.

Weird that there is a shortage of packaging now.

Check and see if the prisons and jails are getting them. When I was an officer in NY State’s prison system 20 years ago. Inmates got two cartons of milk in the morning, and evening. I highly doubt they are withholding milk from the convicts. They don’t want riots on their hands.

Most of the dairies have gone to plastic single serve bottles. They have longer shelf life and plastic is cheaper than paper or aluminum.

Back in the mid 1960s I remember 2 cent milk in square cartons and you pryed up one corner for your straw to slip in there.

America can’t even make milk cartons anymore. Sad.

Were the apples free back then or did they come with the "hot lunch?"

The apples were of the delicious variety and I cannot recall any of the kids actually eating them.
