Has anybody ever walked through The Everglades? Would they survive? What if one decided to build a hut and live there?

The crashed plane’s wing jetted out

Jutted seems to be a better description.

Indian tribes used to live in the Everglades. I do know overpopulation wasn’t a problem they experienced there.

At best, you’d be in knee-deep water. And I saw a huge ‘gator disappear into knee-deep water. I knew he was there...but where?

The mosquitoes alone would drive you out.

2 guys I knew crashed in a tree in Michigan. One was stuck up there with broken bones for 3 days

They found the other under it where he’d died of a heart attack climbing down

No walk. Air boats are the preferred mode of transport. Huts may not keep out the pythons.

The Seminoles did that for centuries. Of course, that was before the area was invaded by Burmese Pythons and New York carpetbaggers.

I used to camp there. I was told that at night if you were in the middle of the darkness in the everglades, and suddenly turned on a flashlight, you would see eyes everywhere looking at you. So I hiked into the swamps from my remote campsite after midnight, from my tent. I could hear the alligators making noise (a very distinctive sound) and decided to run back to my tent.

I've canoed in lake Florida in the everglades. Very interesting experience. The gators are everywhere, and they just sit there looking at you (..please let him flip the canoe and fall in the water, please..).

Thank you all very much for your birthday wishes! I had a great day and a great birthday dinner (T-bone steak)!
God bless,
Jim

To ALL, let’s get this Freepathon over before Thanksgiving and double the contributions. Robinson family needs help due to health issues.

I drove across Tamiami Trail a couple times. At mid point where the rest stop is, I was surprised to see so many people gearing up for overnight hikes

Miccosukee Tribe is small but they still live there.

We lived in Naples, had a vacation house in the Keys, flew over the Everglades all the time, and sometimes drove through. I had to be careful to close the moon roof or Pythons could drop in from the trees. We had an alligator in the pool one time, called animal control and they came, dropped gator back in the Glades.

People with cats could not leave them out with night or the gators would eat them.
Glad I had that adventure, glad I don’t any more.

The Kingston Trio released a song about that. I don’t know if it was based on a true incident (probably not), but it sure is catchy.

You wanna get rid of the pythons?
Convince the hipster crowd they’re a delicacy and charge ‘em $100 dollars an entree.
Throw in some nutria spring rolls and you’ve solved 2 problems and gotten rich at the same time.

Believe that should be “jutted out” rather than “jetted out” ...

Not walked through the entire glades but I have walked around some.

I grew up in Southeast Florida and use to go boar, (wild hogs) hunting with my uncle.

You are better off going at night in an airboat.

Why at night?
You can spot gators easier at night because of their glowing red eyes.😁

Btw: people who say that gator, (gator tail) taste like chicken are lying!

Gator meat is Nasty unless you bury it in bbq sauce!

It actually taste like the swampy waters it comes from!
(and any human it may have had for dinner)🤣

The MSM is awfully cavalier (and often as not, incorrect) with their usage of “crash.”

Reminiscent of the “planked Salmon” I enjoyed last week with a side of broccoli and roasted garlic.
