This is why I brought in the New Year by watching a Val Lewton horror movie from 1943 rather than watching the carpy networks .

Fair question, deserves an honest answer.
My wife and I don't have broadcast or cable TV (for all the reasons you can well guess), and tonight we were hanging out playing a board game together and suddenly it was a few minutes to midnight, so we grabbed an iPad and did a quick lookup for whatever we could find that had the Times Square ball drop. Happened to be ABC. We watched the last 30 seconds of countdown, and the ball hit the bottom, and then we were subjected to this unwelcome image.
Under any other circumstances we wouldn't have had that channel on; the tsunami of unwelcome images that today comprises broadcast and cable TV channels is not something we want in our lives.
We learned our lesson tonight, you can be sure of that: EVEN 5 MINUTES IS TOO MUCH.

I watched the west coast feed of ABC’s coverage of the ball drop. It seems that clip of the two men who were kissing was edited out.
Ya think mebbe somebody at ABC was monitoring social media comments? I can't believe that cr@p went over well with most Americans.
