Since our interest is the Russian threat, then this is of great interest to us and the rest of NATO and countries outside of NATO.

Wouldn’t have been a threat to begin with if certain idiots hadn’t been monkeying with things, but okay.
(Arab spring and Maidan coup brought to you by the Obama admin and their masters.)

That everyone fighting for Ukraine is officially and legally part of its armed forces, no mercenaries.

Sir Francis Drake: pirate.
But he was referred to as a “privateer” by the crown.
He was a pirate.
No matter how you dress it up, it’s still a mercenary.

Everyone fighting for Ukraine is legally in the Ukrainian military and is required to be treated by international POW law.
Since you won’t answer I have to assume that you think the French Foreign Legion goes to war legally defined as mercenaries rather than French soldiers and if captured are under mercenary law rather than regular POW law.
Why don’t you post a reputable source that defines soldiers officially serving in a country’s armed forces as being legally a mercenary and under mercenary law?

The Russian Navy has a history of losing big battles, and every other battle. They never had a good navy. During the Cold War, their submarines were pretty formidable. I think that's about it.
In 1990, the Soviet Navy had:
63 ballistic missile submarines:
6 Project 941 (Typhoon-class) submarines
40 Project 667B (Delta-class) submarines
12 Project 667A (Yankee-class) submarines 5 Project 658 (Hotel-class) submarines
72 cruise missile submarines:
6 Oscar-class submarines
6 Yankee Notch submarines
14 Charlie-class submarines
30 Echo-class submarines
16 Juliett-class submarines
68 nuclear attack submarines:
5 Akula-class submarines
2 Sierra-class submarines
6 Alfa-class submarines
46 Victor-class submarines
6 November-class submarines
3 Yankee SSN submarine
63 conventional attack submarines:
18 Kilo-class submarines
20 Tango-class submarines
25 Foxtrot-class submarines
9 auxiliary submarines
1 Beluga-class submarine
1 Lima-class submarine
2 India-class submarines
4 Bravo-class submarines
1 Losos-class submarine

Then why every time Russia sends missiles into Ukraine are they hitting mercenary barracks?
They who? Mercenaries?
But, two years since the invasion, and Russia is in stalemate with a much smaller military? Why?
