All of our malls had a Thom McAn’s. My oldest sister's first job was at Thom McAn's at the mall. She was young, pretty and well-dressed. She soon moved to the cosmetics department at the big upscale department store in the mall - she was much more successful there!

While we thought we had choices, the reality turned out that we had none. Not since Reagan, and then again with Trump.

I remember the store that sold Buster Brown shoes. I'm 80...lol
My dad always bought McAn....

I prefer: Allen Edmonds - Making handcrafted shoes and boots in America ensures that we’re able to provide our customers with exceptional quality footwear that has set the standard for timeless, sophisticated style since 1922.

Docksides by Sebago or Sperry, or bare feet. Been that way since 1973.

I remember the Thom McAn store that was in downtown Rochester, NY. We shopped there for shoes, sneakers, and winter boots all the time. The store had two big display windows on each side of the store front, with a covered, recessed entry way to the store itself.

Growing up here in the Twilight Zone we had Endicott-Johnson Shoes, no more EJ but we still have George F’s six Merry-Go-Rounds. The ride is always free.

It started in the 60's. I know. I was a teenager then. Graduated from high school, and turned 18 in 1965, but couldn't vote until I was 21. Democrats decided in the 60's that they had to get the black vote, and it all went to $hit after that.

What you prefer and what you can afford are two different things. It would be wasteful to buy a growing boy Allen-Edmonds because he would grow out of them in 10 months.
My old boss, Thomas A. Nelson (who is a treatment center post-stroke), always wore Allen-Edmonds, made in nearby Wisconsin. They are a great value for a classic men's dress shoe.
