Taking this from a different direction....
The lack of knowledge of history by many today is extremely lacking.
kids/ people today may get the impression that the UK was a predominately Black sociiety. Completely free of racism and the UK caste system. That any non aristocracy was able to freely move up in society. Or that there WERE ANY non pure blood aristocrats.
And that by assocation, life was actually better/ more mibility/ less barriers due to color for any non white people in the UK in the past.
Here’s a bio of the executive producer...

Nuff said.
This is a good point, and maybe we should actually be encouraging these race-swap remakes. It does young black people good to see a movie or series about black people facing not racism, but the consequences of their own moral weakness.
Remember that the points of this novel are about greed, honor, self-control, moral accountability, and social responsibility. Now, what do young people (of all colors) need to see today? More stories about racism? Or stories about moral accountability? I mean, it would make more sense if they didn't try setting it in 18th century England, but I've come to the conclusion that black people need Jane Austen just as much as we do.
Jane Austin popular in the hood? How about Porgy & Bess with white actors?
Cultural appropriation!
Racism!
When will it end?
“We shall overcome…we shall overcome”
Agree, and I hope the appropriation helps mitigate, if not cure, a failed culture.
Zora Neale Hurston’s work could generate several good movies and TV series. Oh, wait, that wouldn’t work get past corporate development because Hurston was a black Republican and did not whine about race and poverty.
How do you boycott commercials who depict the only man a white woman can be married to is black?
The brainwashing is endless.
Whether it be based on color, climate, or sex. The msg is the same.
Traditional values MUST END!
🤢🤮🤮🤮
W/o instead of typing out without just to save typing four letters is needlessly garbled.
I think it’s called cultural appropriation.
I think the actors and writers unions require this now so it may be beyond the control of Hallmark.
They only do this because black people are not creative enough to come up with decent stories on their own.

What about hands up, don’t shoot?
Shouldn’t this be considered cultural appropriation?
Sorry. I didn’t realize that “w/o”, an abbreviation in use over the past century, was still over anyone’s head.
Good one
And now we can cast Matt Damon as Malcolm X
And Matthew McConaughey as Shaka Zulu.
Exactly. I’d like to see a remake of “Straight Outta Compton” with an all white cast.
