Gardening on a Budget
Too late.
$1200 down, $2500 to go.
Those are great choices!
I find nothing prettier (other than a Speckled Pup!) than a combo of Red Twig Dogwood, Japanese Whitespire Birch and Evergreens.
Pretty most of the year, but BREATHTAKING in the snowy winter months. :)
LOL!
I ALMOST placed an order the other day for THREE seed packets and ONE Geranium plant that I could easily propagate into dozens.
They wanted $17.99 for shipping! No sale! Grrrr!
Thanks, Pete! :)
LOL!
YOU are ALWAYS the exception to every rule around here! ;)
we just looked at the gurney’s seed catalogue- wow- prices are getting high- we shoulda bought a bunch of extra seeds back when they didn’t cost so much
A little help, here?!!?
Rotational Grazing at its finest!
Living in, and on, High Clover all Summer in the Pasture with the Heifers.
Turning into a surly GRUMP, ready for a day at 'The Spa' next month. ;)
That is very good to know.
“Spa” time already? I feel like Chuck just arrived!
Park Seed has too high of shipping cost.
I tried Harris Seed and if you delay placing an order in your cart, they usually email a free shipping code. WINNING.
Kobe beef...cows sometimes get beer.
Heavy marbling on This Kobe Beef. May have fed this one with olive cake meal to get it this heavily veined!
The report — published Wednesday by the free market think tank Buckeye Institute — is titled "Net-Zero Climate-Control Policies Will Fail the Farm" and outlines how farmers will see their operational costs rise by an estimated 34% as a result of net-zero ESG policies.
Overall, the prices of common grocery items, including American cheese, would increase 78%, beef would increase by 70%, rice would tick up 56%, chicken would see a 39% increase and eggs would be 36% more expensive.
The weather was dry and unseasonably warm for most of the past week here in Central Missouri. It cooled down to more normal temps over the weekend. Weather guessers were calling for rain but it seems they’ve backed off from that prediction for my part of the state and now think it’s going to be another mostly warm and dry week.
Still nothing going on in the garden but if the weather holds I should be able to get the last of the dirt pile moved out of the way next weekend.
In the meantime it’s just more organizing the workshop, cleaning up little messes, and trying to get ready for spring.
Also in the meantime I get to enjoy another year of KC being Super Bowl champs.
Looks like they dropped less than an hour before I rolled up coming home from work.
That makes 7 goats. If the other full grown female is pregnant, which she likely is, I might be at 9 goats. She had twins last year but lost one. It was her first kidding and I believe it was from the current buck's father who was a big dude. She had one large kid and one small and the large one died before I found them. Might have better luck with this new dad because he's lower % of Boer goat and higher Kiko. Little better match size wise.
Probably why this one finally had twins.
The “drearies” are on the way out this morning. Skies are still gray & gloomy, but there should be sunshine by noon. The wind is way ‘up’ and it will be blustery today with 20 to 30 mph winds and gusts that could easily reach 40 miles per hour which might knock out the power in some areas.
Since late Friday, we have 1.5 inches of rain in the gauge so the ground is soggy & soft .... the grass is noticeably greening up which is a big problem. I am fairly certain the mower isn’t going to fit in the trailer so we could take it back & forth - 60” deck and the trailer is 5’ wide. Sigh. If I could get Little Buddy running, it would definitely fit in the trailer .... it would take forever to mow (not a zero turn), but might be my only option. I can’t believe I’m having to worry about grass in mid-February.
Our grass is greening up, too! And that is VERY unusual for Wisconsin in February. We also had two Tornadoes last week.
All of my ‘winter birds’ are nowhere to be found, other than Cardinals. All the smaller birds must be either finding food elsewhere or have already gone further north. Also weird.
They ARE talking snow Wednesday pm through Thursday, so we’ll see what happens. 46 degrees for Wednesday so only 50% chance of snow. Looks more like Wishful Thinking for the businesses that need snow around here. :(
We got a good chunk of snow in APRIL last year. That really screwed things up for everyone.
Recycling is a a good way of keeping the cost down! Augie is doing something like this with hog panels.
Not a happy thing if you have orchards!
"Our grass is greening up, too!"
I have large patches of zoysia lawn so the green is usually chickweed and creeping charlie. I will go out later and spray them with vinegar to remove the waxy covering of the leaves, and wait a day then spray with some other weed killer.
