We have a Sony google TV that would do that ‘woke’ garbage, but we got a Logitech Harmony universal remote that I programmed so that when it powers on the TV, it also powers on the tuner box, and immediately sets the input to #1 (which is the tuner box). I’ve never cared for the “smart TV” concept. I use either a RasPi or a laptop running Linux connected to the TV for youtube and news and such.

The Harmony is fairly basic - nothing fancy. Got it at BestBuy for about $80, which was worth it for us.

Hey — I got two generations of Sony Bravia. Both a good five years old or more. No boot or startup screen. There is a menu item to stop that.

TODAY though —

I have an off-the-air antenna on my sets. Since yesterday, suddenly, almost all the digital channels disappeared. When I scan the airwaves it tells me it found 28 digital channels, yet once complete I have only 3 basic channels. 13, 28 and 55. It’s like the digital world is upgrading codecs and protocols and leaving old digital sets out in the cold.

Anybody having off-the-air issues with channels ?

We bought a Vizio last month. It’s a “smart” tv, unfortunately. I did not link it to any router even though they all show up. The tv tries to connect and upload our data, but I don’t think it’s successful. The thing is...we did not look for a “smart” tv, but couldn’t find a “dumb” tv in our market. So much for giving the public what they want. Most of the time, the tv is unplugged.

I have a big-screen TV, but I rarely use it, I do most of my watching on my laptop.
