Blue collar manufacturing jobs were not replaced by machines, they were replaced by other people in other countries. Machines have been created to make humans more productive and efficient but those machines have also been moved to other countries to make them more productive and efficient. Our people in this country bought in to the idea because they thought they would get better jobs in offices instead of factories.
Artificial Intelligence is a concept that is based on the robot from Lost in Space or Rosie from the Jetsons. The telling of the story of AI is an effort to distract from actual useful news like a senile president and a very expensive war being lost and a flood of criminals from other countries. Whatever jobs we didn’t send off shore we brought the other shore in to fill, at a lower price. Talking about AI is like worrying about climate change.

Current AI is trained on social media. It is essentially, to borrow a Marxist term, a social construct. It reflects the thinking of a postmodern generation that has unmoored its beliefs from reality. For AI to be useful it needs to be programmed to use the scientific method to train itself and to do that it needs direct access to the physical world to make its own observations and run its own experiments. Until it has that capability, it will simply regurgitate the collective propaganda and psychosis of social media.
This happened in the 80's when mainframe computers and the IBM PC suddenly made hordes of middle managers who were paid to sit around and "know stuff" redundant. Fortunately, at that time the computing revolution opened up many new jobs to compensate.
I don't see AI adding to employment in a similar way, though it might open up new options for smarter people to monetize their abilities.
