The article goes on to list seven reasons why the comments by Trump may be a problem. She's Latina, a female governor (and head of the Republican Governor's Association); Republicans need the votes of both of these groups. According to the author, after listing the seven problems including continued attacks on Republican's not yet on board with his win, all of them spell trouble ahead.
My own opinion is that Trump will be Trump and nothing anyone says or does will cause him to change his style or tone down his rhetoric. My hope is that Trump's leadership and forceful manner in other areas plus other circumstances (Hillary's problems and Bernie's nipping at her cankles) will drive the electorate to overlook Trump's negatives.

...she cares about what he says he will do to help New Mexicans I wonder what she really meant: "...help New Mexicans" or "...help new Mexicans".

...she cares about what he says he will do to help New Mexicans...There, fixed it.
Martinez said Trumps plan to build a wall and force Mexico to pay for it was unrealistic and irresponsible,
Really? Really? How about slapping a 10% surcharge on all money transfers from illegals to Mexihellhole until the wall is paid for? How about we cut off all social services to illegals so they self-deport? That alone would pay for the wall many times over.
Irresponsible is a governor more concerned about hurting the feelings of illegals and their enablers than protecting our borders.

She started it and he pointed out her failings. She may have protested/fought against a few things but she wants him to single out her State for government largess.
To him, being labeled as a "Republican" doesn't make one immune to justified criticism.
He has already said and proved, over and over, that he counter-punches and does so with vigor....

The GOP should be alarmed that its base has left them and gone to Trump.
Useless trash like Martinez and virtually every other elected member of the GOP is why that has happened.

Because she’s “Latina” she cannot be criticized, and because she’s a woman she cannot be criticized. That doesn’t sound like equal treatment to me. Trump has criticized a lot of people, most of whom richly deserved it.

What should alarm GOP is refusal by Gov Martinez to get behind the presumptive nominee and work for unity. She is playing politics in NM which is largely Hispanic.

There’s a pattern here: Someone from the GOPe hits Trump, Trump hits back, the media accuses Trump of unprovoked “attacks”, Trump’s support goes up.
To: CedarDave
The only people concerned are GOPe members.

My problem would be if the facts were not true. However Martinez has made a mess of New Mexico. So trumps right again.

O Susana has a habit of criticizing things she doesn’t know about.
Typical Establishment lackey.

Trump he no reason to change his tone.
His tone has gotten him where he is at, and it will work well especially against Hillary

So essentially, don’t criticise Susana Martinez for her many failures as a governour because she has a vagina and a zed on the end of her name.
Not buying it.

No this is exactly what the voters are fed up with.

I talk to a lot of people and she has done some good things but not hard to shine when you follow Richardson. What surprises me is she seems to be more popular out of state than she is here. The back and forth with Trump was started by her. I often wish he wouldn’t get into things like that, but he does what he does.
People here don’t bash her for the most part but don’t brag on her either. People that follow politics in other states praise her and more likely to mention her as V.P. or Presidential material.
I wonder how much political interest there would be in her if she was not a female Hispanic?
